SIG, just bought one.  There is one on sale almost new for $499 with 4 neutered mags at sturmgewehr.

Sig, no contest.

I'll second that! I'll stick with John Browning and single action triggers.
Link Posted: 5/12/2004 6:04:49 PM EDT
I've got a Sig (P239) and a reworked HiPower.

I'd flip a coin and be happy either way.
Link Posted: 5/12/2004 6:06:13 PM EDT
I'll cast another vote for a .45 ACP 1911!

GLOCK 19!  I didn't even read the other posts becasue GLOCK is hte ONLY pistol
Link Posted: 5/12/2004 6:11:01 PM EDT
Glock 26 with a G19 mag.
Link Posted: 5/12/2004 6:11:42 PM EDT
For me, either the Sig 22x series or any Glock, the venerable P35 Hi-Power was good in its days, but no more. Check out the long & steep feed ramp of a Hi-Power, which can cause misfeeds etc of anything except round nose-type bullets. If you had to feed a blunt or open nose bullet thru that ramp, what are the chances for a mal-function? Probably pretty high. Now look at the short shallow feed ramps of any of the modern 9mm pistols. Plus there are way too many moving parts inside the Hi-Power as compared to the more modern 9s.

get a glock 19c and then buy a 19 regular barrel for it...i shot one the other day with the 19c configuration and it had zero muzzle climb..shot great and they are reliable and cheap! you can switch out the barrels when your not at the range

...........that is Ballistically Fingerprinted for the Feds.  I ain't talking about those states that require it.
Link Posted: 5/12/2004 6:30:34 PM EDT
Of those, I think the SIG 228.

G19 or G17.
Link Posted: 5/12/2004 6:47:51 PM EDT
As a designated gunsmith, I would pick the G19.
Link Posted: 5/12/2004 6:52:42 PM EDT
Imbroglio, just what the fuck is this 'designated gunsmith' stuff that you keep referring to?
Link Posted: 5/12/2004 6:56:24 PM EDT
Do you know what a designated hitter in baseball is?

The guy that doesn't really play?
Link Posted: 5/12/2004 7:19:51 PM EDT

Link Posted: 5/12/2004 7:20:42 PM EDT
Sig, then XD

Link Posted: 5/12/2004 7:42:33 PM EDT
Glock 21 .45 or the Glock 17

Ahhhh, yes, the famous Browing (no need for that pesky 'n' in the middle of the name) sNIgle action trigger pull.

Sorry, I just couldn't resist..

Oh, I vote for HK USP in 9.

GLOCK 19. Reliable, accurate, concealable, and intuitively simple to use. It is the finest defensive 9mm available and possibly the best all around handgun period.
Link Posted: 5/12/2004 8:03:13 PM EDT
Sig P228.
Link Posted: 5/12/2004 8:13:45 PM EDT
Sig 228, its reliable, I'm used to its operations and I assembled one from the frame up so I know it inside and out.
Link Posted: 5/12/2004 8:16:48 PM EDT
All very nice pistols.  I chose the Glock 19 because it is smaller and lighter.  It is no target pistol, but it is a very good combat handgun IMHO.
Link Posted: 5/12/2004 8:29:45 PM EDT
Sorry XD for me
Link Posted: 5/12/2004 8:36:39 PM EDT
Personal preference.  100% reliable, fits the hand perfectly and hits where you aim, even when point shooting or from a compromised shooting position.  Delete the mag safety and you have an excellent single action trigger with no other modifications necessary, and you keep 100% reliability.  13 rounds of 9mm in affordable high caps.  Its my personal choice for a car gun, I have one under my driver's seat with 4 high caps and a ten rounder in reserve ready to go at all times.  Yesterday I practiced with it and hit a child's sandbox-type toy bucket from 50 yards away, even with my weak hand only, every time.  It shoots just a tad bit high at 50 yards.  And mine's a friggin $200 FEG clone, its not even a real FN!

The following is not a picture of my actual gun.  I just want these grips someday:

I have the glock 19 and like it really well, but I'd probably choose the Sig

So you're telling me that even though my state d oesn't require it, the federales have balistcally fingerprinted my glock?  Don't go tinfoil on me here Larry.

BHP...

I positively despise Glocks, and have no experience with the Sig...
Link Posted: 5/12/2004 9:29:42 PM EDT
I would prefer a Glock 17, but of those choices I would take the 19.
