It is odd that they've never hunted men before.  I mean they are big dolphins and they eat dolphins...why not people?

I've wondered many times if orcas ever hunt people.  I know that there have been a few times when they've killed people/trainers at marine animal shows.

At least one of them at Sea World appears to have developed a taste for hunting humans...

This.  Orcas can be vicious.  There's vids of orcas playing with their "food", seals and penguins, and just killing for the heck of it.

Orcas will also hunt great white sharks as well as some of the big whales.  I understand that the name "killer whale" was actually supposed to be "whale killer".

You know, great whites and bulls get all the visceral cold blooded fear and attention, and they're deserving, but there is just something about a carnivorous mammal as powerful and smart as an Orca that can chill the everliving fuck right out of my bones.

From Wikipedia (yes, I know that anyone can edit a Wikipedia page):

Killer whales (or orcas) are powerful predators capable of killing prey much larger than humans, such as leopard seals and great white sharks. They have also been recorded preying on usually terrestrial species such as moose swimming between islands.[1] However, wild orcas are not considered a real threat to humans, as there are few documented cases of wild orcas attacking people, and none of the recorded attacks have been fatal. There have been about two dozen cases of orcas attacking humans since the 1970s,[2] almost exclusively perpetrated by captive animals. Experts are divided as to whether the injuries and deaths caused by captive killer whales have been accidents or deliberate attempts to cause harm.[3]

Sounds like you're safer around a bunch of Killer Whales, than sharks..............unless you are dealing with a captive Killer Whale.

Serious fucking hang time!

Orcas are known for playing with their kill before ending it, and they have killed humans.

Remember the trainer that was killed by the Orca at Sea World? That was on video, and that orca was fucking with her HARD before she died.

Nope.  Hard to develop fire, and thence gunpowder, metallurgy, etc in a sub-maine environment.

I'm Googling, and can't find any info to dispute the Wiki article I posted above.  It seems there are no recorded fatal incidents with wild Orcas.  Only captive ones, killing their trainers.

Most likely, that's exactly what happened. I've read that penguins will push the leader into the water and if he comes up there's no predator and they can all go in.
