Or, ewe-Rah. (Never had to spell it) I mentioned in another thread that as a soldier in the early to mid eighties, the expression was commonplace. For instance: Specialist did you square away that to&e locker... Ooh-rah sergeant. It was an enthusiastic rodger that. Several members here found it unusual. Not sure why, I'm intrigued. Always thought Marines said hoo-ah or some variant. So... how bout it service guys from the eighties, what did you say?

It was more whoooo . . . ya,  sort of like that.

It was much more masculine and delivered with more enthusiasm that that gay sounding noise that soldiers and marines make nowadays.

Mid 90s here.  Ooh-rah was Marines.  Army was hooah, and frankly, meant anything but

no, from "Yes, I completed the task." to "Fuck you, Sergeant."

Pretty much the only times I said oorah was greeting someone with "Oorah sir/SSgt/whatever" instead of good morning/afternoon/evening.
