I've got a buddy who's going to buy a pistol; he's got a pile of rifles and shotguns, but he's a hunter so he's never owned a handgun. He wants to get a full size 9mm semiauto - I think he's getting a Beretta. Anyway, it got me to thinking: I have so many pistols that I can't imagine paring it down to one. But if I could only have one pistol, it would probably be some kind of hi-cap 9mm. If you were only going to have a single pistol and it was a full size 9mm and you wanted it to be a "classic", which one would you get?
Beretta 92? Glock 17? SIG Sauer P226? CZ75? Browning Hi-Power? |

Glock 19.
Get the 17 if you don't feel the 19 is "big enough." (need to compensate?) |

Sig 226 for me This. If only one, this is the one to get. |

1911 I 2nd this...... I have a 92FS Vertec....Great gun. However after shooting 1911's a bunch lately, I dont think I'll ever go to 9mm again... |

I've said it many times here before and it's just as true today –– if I could only keep one of my many, MANY handguns, it would be one of my Glock 19s. No question, no hesitation.

G17 is a great choice, but a "classic" would be the Browning hands down.

From your list either the G17 or the Hi Power. It depends on your friends taste, what fits etc.

2 weeks ago I would have said Hi Power.....Now I'm growing quite fond of my new Sig 226.

I had a CZ-75 years ago & always liked it.....
Currently have only .45 ACP pistols now though |
|
Out of that list? Definitely the CZ-75.
Of course that's the only one I own on the list, so that might have some bearing on my decision |

even though I own an Inglis No1 MK1* Hi Power from 1945,
I'd still go with the Beretta 92FS |
|
I have a P30L. A very fine piece of German engineering if I do say so myself. |

226 all the way . IMO it's the Rolls Royce of 9mm handguns. As long as you get one of the older models, the 226 is a fine weapon. The newer ones, not so much. |

G17 - best combat handgun ever made Yep. Which is why its been used in so many major wars....oh wait....that's right, it hasn't. That title belongs to the 1911. Deal with it. |

Either Taurus 92FS (Better than the Beretta IMO)
or more likely, CZ SP01 I voted CZ 75 |
