I've got a buddy who's going to buy a pistol; he's got a pile of rifles and shotguns, but he's a hunter so he's never owned a handgun. He wants to get a full size 9mm semiauto - I think he's getting a Beretta. Anyway, it got me to thinking: I have so many pistols that I can't imagine paring it down to one. But if I could only have one pistol, it would probably be some kind of hi-cap 9mm. If you were only going to have a single pistol and it was a full size 9mm and you wanted it to be a "classic", which one would you get?

Beretta 92?
Glock 17?
SIG Sauer P226?
CZ75?
Browning Hi-Power?

Glock 19.

Get the 17 if you don't feel the 19 is "big enough." (need to compensate?)

Browning Hi-Power

End of story.

CZ75. Never shot a BHP, though

that wasnt on the op's list, but I definitely like the 19 as well - its a bit smaller for ccw - but i shoot the 17 better
either way cant go wrong with Glock

If you can't have a 1911 in .45, Hi-Power in 9mm

XDm or Sig 226.
Link Posted: 6/10/2009 4:57:41 PM EST
G17 is a great choice, but a "classic" would be the Browning hands down.
Link Posted: 6/10/2009 4:57:43 PM EST
From your list either the G17 or the Hi Power. It depends on your friends taste, what fits etc.
Link Posted: 6/10/2009 4:58:16 PM EST
92FS or any 9mm by H&K.
Link Posted: 6/10/2009 4:59:21 PM EST
Other - Glock 19

My next 9mm will be a HK p30

226 all the way . IMO it's the Rolls Royce of 9mm handguns.
Link Posted: 6/10/2009 5:03:33 PM EST
I had a CZ-75 years ago & always liked it.....

Currently have only .45 ACP pistols now though

Link Posted: 6/10/2009 5:03:39 PM EST
Out of that list? Definitely the CZ-75.

Of course that's the only one I own on the list, so that might have some bearing on my decision

HK

The only 9mm I have is the Max 10 upper for my Mac 10 machine gun...

Well, once the Mac clears the ATF and I get it the rest of the way put together.

voted Glock...but I do have a Sig 226 as well.
Link Posted: 6/10/2009 5:05:54 PM EST
They are all good handguns, but since you said you wanted a "Classic", that would only leave you one choice......the Browning Hi-Power:

Link Posted: 6/10/2009 5:06:31 PM EST
even though I own an Inglis No1 MK1* Hi Power from 1945,

I'd still go with the Beretta 92FS
Link Posted: 6/10/2009 5:07:24 PM EST
XDM or a Glock 17 .
Link Posted: 6/10/2009 5:08:29 PM EST

I have a P30L. A very fine piece of German engineering if I do say so myself.
Link Posted: 6/10/2009 5:09:33 PM EST
GLOCK is my first choice here.

CZ75 is #2.

As long as you get one of the older models, the 226 is a fine weapon. The newer ones, not so much.

Which is why its been used in so many major wars....oh wait....that's right, it hasn't. That title belongs to the 1911. Deal with it.

Either Taurus 92FS (Better than the Beretta IMO)

or more likely, CZ SP01

I voted CZ 75
