You are absolutely right.
A little British socialism, a dab of Nazi and a kick-ass chunk of "1984".

I like the tag line.

"People should not be afraid of their governments. governments should be afraid of their people.

Natalie Portman!  Probably thinks she is making an anti-bush movie.  The good guy uses only knives? Anti-gun Movie!

Stupid me bought the movie before watching it. Wound up giving it away. I didn't like it polluting my dvd collection.

I'm not a huge Miller fan but that's kind of what I was thinking too... That is probably my second favorite GN after Batman: The Killing Joke.

I don't recall any anti-gun sentiments or themes in the GN.
Basically, the "hero" is a renaissance-type man.  Very educated, very artistic, very deadly.  He uses knives because he is a shadow figure and guns don't really lend to the type of mystery that this character embodies.

And, this is set in England, so you know that every good subject has been properly disarmed.

Yeah the GN is an absolutely thrilling read.
I'm looking forward to the movie. The script was done by the Wachowski bros (Matrix). Although I'm not terribly crazy about Natalie's hair...I dislike baldness.

Oh, Fuck.

And the lead female's shaved head is essential to the plot.

I think "The Watchmen" was one of the last graphic novels I read. Interesting but I didn't care for the kind of cynical "Wonder Woman was raped in The Hall of Justice" tone to the whole thing.

I did like "The League of Extraoridnary Gentlemen" movie.

You need to read Batman: The Killing Joke.

Thank me later.

(where's the comic book nerd smiley?)

Whoops I lied, I read that one. Was that by the same author? I did not remember that.

Actually I think it was written by Moore. Great story, brilliantly illustrated.

GNs originally were more graphic in their depiction of sex and violence, were printed on much better stock using much better printing processes, and had better - more adult - storylines than regular comics. Hence the term, "Graphic Novel".

That's all that's left, and they'd better hurry- Brit Med organization proposes banning knives. Also swords, pikes, etc. Crickett bats next?
