7 minutes ago, news says "substantial" quake...
Epicenter four hour drive from seatle.
Richter scale 5.9 at epicenter, low 4.x in seatle. Just wishfull thinking here but mabee it will triger the "BIG ONE" in CA and dump those bastards into the pacific.

6.2
6.2 is substantial, but miniscule compared to the India quake. Anybody know what the India quake was finally rated on the Rhicter?
Looks like the body count on the India quake is finally at 19,000
News is starting to get video out of buildings that are 1/2 fallen down.
I remember that the San Fran quake, they thought that there were no fatalities for the first hour or so, and the bad stuff didn't make the news for a while. So, crossing the fingers that the Seattle folks (sans coffee drinking tree huggers) make it out ok.

Watch out for the tsunami!
I was on a conference call with a group in Seattle when it hit - it was loud enough to here on the phone.
We got hit here in Portland about 30 seconds later. Lot of power, but it was a swaying motion instead of jolting. Apparently no significant damage in Portland.

Just upped it to a 6.4, so that's about 200% stronger than initially reported.
Fox news is now reporting a 6.5 from the UW Seismology lab
Here in Spokane my friend in the next dorm room over felt it, and said the windows started rattling. I thiught he was full of sh!t, but now I guess it wasn't his imagination. My home is in Seattle, I hope it, my family, my guns, and above all my dogs are all right.

The fires have started, time to lock and load.
Now it's at 7.0 by Fox News, I'm in Seattle and it didn't really seem that strong?
Haha, all the tourists are stuck on the Space Needle
USGS reports it was a 4.7, it was on their webpage, I guess the server is getting so many hits that it can't keep up with them.
The radio news is out to lunch with the reporting.
I felt it on Whidbey Island, after living in Kalifornication for the '71 San Fernando quake, the '87 Whittier Narrows quake, and the '94 Northridge quake I can say this one wasen't shit. Where I was anyways.

India quake was 6.9
If this was 7.0 (that would be 100%, or 2X as strong as the India quake) then it shows what a little rebar can do in your construction.
Patels need to build the buildings better...

I'm just waiting for Ranier to go.

Wshington went with Gore, right?

99% of the tree huggers in Washington state are in Seattle, so if Raineer blows and covers the city in lava, the Republicans will pick up some more controll :)

they lowered it down to 6.8

It was definitely fun [:O] here in edmonds (5 miles north of seattle).
I work with some geologist/scientist types, and they say, that it probably was around 7.0, but because of the depth, surface damage was much lessened. If this were a surface (plate) quake and 7.0, it would have been much, much worse.
YMMV
Cheers,
Chris

We just got our power back about an hour ago.
NWCN reported that the epicenter was about six miles north of us here in Olympia. The house is a mess and lots of water from the fish tanks sloshed out, but the only permanent damage so far is a single broken wine glass. Our neighbor wasn't so lucky. She has quite a bit of damage and asked me to shut off their gas because she thinks one of their lines cracked.
My wife was downtown with our baby and she said that windows were blowing out around her. She was pretty, well, shook up(!).
At my office I dove under my desk but most of the staff just ran around like chickens. Training showed. It really didn't seem very severe at first, but when the damage reports started coming in the State government officials sent all non
emergency employees home.

I am up in Edmonds (5 miles north of Seattle).
I work for a scientific consulting firm, and most everyone either ran under a desk or a door frame. Of course everyone was so excited about explaining what was happening no one really freaked out.
We got a little jiggling, followed by a big bang, 10 seconds of violent shudders, then we got about 20 seconds of smooth wave action till it petered out. Very little damage.
My sister lives in West Seattle, and says she has a lot of damage in her apartment.
The interesting thing about the Seattle area is the variety of soil types that we build on. The hard packed glacial soils don't move around as much as areas with a lot of fill. But you also have areas that tend to magnify the shock. It's really interesting.
Cheers,
Chris

It must have been scary as hell down on that artificial mud flat that Safeco field and the surrounding area are built on. It has been said that during a large quake that parcel of land may go the way of Atlantis.

At first it felt like a big truck rumbling by but then the thing got going and shook my third story apartment back and forth about two or three inches real slowly for about 20 seconds.
Total damage: two pictures fell of the television set, several hung on the wall had to be straighten out - no pistols or rifles were damaged at all.

Celebrating the Second Amendment One Fine Firearm at a Time

I live pretty close to the whole deal. We live on the Pierce/Thurston County line, not far off of I-5. Our house faired well, only loosing three jars of spaghetti sauce. Had a few other things fall off shelves, but nothing broke.
Worst of it was for a childhood buddy. I've know the poor bastard for years and he's had nothing but bad luck. We had sold him a little mobile home about five years ago.
That poor little mobile shook so bad that the hot water heater broke free of the gas line. He was in the room next door at the time and he said it look like a blow torch. The place is a total. Firemen were able to get it out in about 10 minutes, but the Craker Jack house went up pretty quick.
I hope his insurance helps out.
Some of you have seen 1Gunrunners store down in Chehalis. He has had quite a bit of damage, with all of the rifles jumping off the wall, or out of the racks. I think most of the ammo flew to the ground. Lots of cleanup to do.
We feel fortunate that no lives were lost.
Good luck to everyone else in their cleanup.

I guess I will be banned from AR15.com.....I grabbed my FN-FAL....less rounds per clip, more bang per shot....
I only grabbed it as a 'human located in the rubble pile warning system'!
I am near the airport, my second one, it was major...I saw a lot of street damage near Safeco Fill, er Field..and lots of water main breaks in that area....
All OK....OUT HERE

This was the post that I was going to put up some pictures on. I think it would be more appropriate for 1Gunrunner to post them himself.
If you'd like to see a pile of rifles on the floor, you might want to ask him to email them to you, unless, of course, he figures out himself how to post them.
Hope none of those barrels got bent! What is your AA account name?

I talked to my family last night. My dad was home when it happened. He said the hanging light we have hanging over the dinner table actually bounced up and hit the ceiling. This light weighs over sixty pounds, and hangs about three and a half feet from the ceiling! The worst thing that happened to my family was the cat survived. Many of the homes in my area suffered structural damage, so I think we got off lucky.
