My 14-month old has figured out how to get into drawers and pull things out. As this is where I keep my pistol, time for the trigger locks. I can say, while I didn't appreciate the "free" locks when I bought the pistol, they are really handy now.

I would move them up out of reach as well.

Maybe consider a small handgun safe?

With a keypad combo, next to the bed.

These work well also. Just make sure you don't show anyone or the kids. I guess the wife should know.

Agree, keep the gun away from him/her for his /hers safety, keep the gun close to
you for him/hers safety.

We are a little short on cash at the moment, so the trigger locks will have to do. I am just glad we have those as the main gun safe is upstairs. So at least, the kid can't discharge the gun if he gets ahold of it while we are not looking. But, down the road, we really need a nightstand safe, easier to get at the gun in time of need.

I would strongly suggest at least getting them out of reach of the little one. Even with the trigger lock it only takes 1 time of neglecting to use it and have a little one get ahold of the gun.
