Bullsh*t...

There is a lot less thinking in playing golf that in baseball or football.

You cannot be dumb and play football… well everything but defensive line.

Offensive lineman are some of the most intelligent of all athletes they have to be to do their jobs. On average an offensive lineman has to remember well over 100 plays and how each play interacts with many different defensive setups. Only the quarterback has a more complicated job.

No…

When IQ is measured across the board for athletes they do much better than the general population.

Most dumb: NFL, NBA

Requires most thinking: NASCAR

For those of you who say NASCAR isn't a sport or doesn't require thinking, I'd like to kindly ask you to strap into a car on a 90 degree day and ride around out there for 3-4 hours. Sometimes the heat inside those cars exceeds 130 degrees. Drivers have in the past lost as much as 7-10 lbs of body weight after a race like that. Also, think of those crashes. When you crash into a concrete wall going over 100 mph, that's a hit like no NFL linemen could ever deliver. So don't tell me these guys aren't athletes. To be a successful NASCAR driver, you have to be able to take some vicious hits while having the poise and mind of a chess player. That's really all NASCAR racing is, a chess game at 190 mph.

Also, think about how technical things get when it comes to mechanics. And don't leave out decisions such as taking 2 tires vs. 4, calculating fuel mileage, etc. It is a very technical sport and requires tremendous thinking. There's far more to it than going out and jumping into a car and driving it in circles. And also, when was the last time you saw a football player, a basketball player or a golfer taking their equipment to a wind tunnel for testing?

NASCAR (and any automotive racing for that matter) is by far the most complex and "thinking man/woman's" sport.

So you want to say that NASCAR drivers are smart....ok.....

But NASCAR isn't a sport, and the drivers are not athletes.  NASCAR is an SHOW.  IT IS ENTERTAINMENT.  Just like the wwf/wwe/wtfevertheyarethisweek.

There's only two forms of racing I'd even consider close to being "sports" -- F1 and WRC -- but I still don't consider them sports or the drivers (and codrivers in the case of WRC) to be athletes.

sweating, while turning a steering wheel, is not a sport.
impacting a wall because you failed at turning the steering wheel correctly does not make the sweating into a sport.

hmmm? boxing does rate right up there in the percentge of dummies involved.

OK, so the only thing that could be considered a sport is an activity that requires throwing a ball through a hoop, hitting a ball with a stick or kicking a ball with your foot? That doesn't seem any more "sporting" to me than racing.

Not a personal flame, CB, but it's obvious alot of people on here have never had the opportunity to drive such a car, or they'd realize how wrong they are.  I have worked around alot of  NASCAR drivers, at varying levels of the sport up to and including Nextel Cup, and until you've wrestled that car in a pack of 40 others at 190+ three inches or less apart  for 4+ hours with no AC with the temp at 180 plus inside that car, and DON'T cause a 20 car wreck,  then you should really just hush, 'cause you DON'T know what the fuck you're talking about.

On top of that, most NASCAR guys are family guys, and you rarely hear of one selling crack or setting up his pregant wife for murder. Counts for alot in my book.

Any form of motorspors,  not just NASCAR,  is just as much a sport as golf, and the strategy is as much a chess match as any other sport. Road racing requires even more concentration and athleticism, and a good head on your shoulders. A top fuel dragster is a handful of acceleration at 300+ in a quarter mile., that requires a shitload of concentration and athleticism to control.

If you don't like it, fine.  It's a free country, but to say it requires no athleticism or brains is just ignorant.
