Who in has managed to avoid this widow maker of a virus? I guess in my 53 yrs I have considered myself enough of a man's man per say to "Walk off" any bugs that came my way forgoing any and all Doctors visit. Recently however (after having a flu shot under the advisement of my Doctor after our required annual physical) I picked up the flu and it has just kicked my azz up one side and down the other. I can see why something like this would be lethal to the old and infants. Its been a week and I'm still feeling like hell.

I rarely get sick, to the point of not catching the nasty stuff my family gets without even really avoiding them when sick.  Got that nasty flu though, then a nasty upper respritory virus going around here also.

This years flu ain't fucking around.

I never get the flu.  Until four days ago.  It has kicked my ass.

Not yet this year but the granddaughter got the bug last week.  supposedly the "Type A" variant.  Daughter had to take her to the doc and get some Tamiflu.  I haven't gotten anything this year but three or four years ago got hit with one that put me down for about three days.  At my age (73) I always get the shots but it is still a crap shoot.

Drink lots of liquids and rest seems to be the best medicine.

It's running around at our daycare, hope the injected vaccine didn't miss the strain like the nasal spray did.

Havnt had the flu in 18 years. Havnt had a flu shot in 18 years. Used to get the flu shot every year and it would be followed by the flu.

I hadn't heard:
Is the vaccine a winner this year, or another bust?

48 years old. Never had the flu or a flu shot. Never had strep or anything else really. All my doctor time is caused by injury and only then if I can't fix it myself. Super glue does wonders
I have broken my nose 6 times and have a partially collapsed sinus cavity so every so often when allergies kick in the shit doesn't drain well and get a sinus infection.

Both Little Pony and I got the nasty upper respiratory virus going around. Not nice but at least you can function through it mostly.

Getting old is not for the faint of heart.

Same here sinus infection, back ops, knee replacement and busted ear drums. Wife tells me I'm crazy I'm 55 now. But let me get this straight. You never got the flu OP in 53 years and when you finally got the flu vaccine you got the flu. Man that makes you wonder doesn't it. Is that what you just stated.

Something else to. Unless I have absolutely positively no choice I refuse to take antibiotics. I believe in letting you body heal it's self and build up a resistance to viruses. Now I do keep a really good stash of antibiotics in my med kit. Just in case. I was a paramedic with fire rescue.

Got it bad a few days ago.  Got into the clinic, rapid test for flu-A  and started on Tamiflu, which seems to have taken it down from a 10 to a 4.

I might need to get some Tamiflu and add to my med pack

It definitely has me wondering! You are correct, I cannot recall a single time until now. I can promise you that a flu shot will never be seeing me again. I don't know if it was connected but it certainly didn't help. He diagnosed mine as Type A as well.

Type A here!  took 3 visits to the docs to finally figure out wtf I had.  First flu test was negative.  One doc made me go to ER for possible pulmonary embolism. almost ruined Super Bowl.

No flu shot here. Had to have gotten it from the GD gym.  It's been two weeks and I'm still not right.

Just got done with mine.  A little over four days, sore joints, a little snot, sore throat.

I did nothing except eat, sleep, and watch TV for the past two days.  I did drink 2 gallons of grapefruit juice and a bunch of water too.

I actually gained a couple pounds from eating so much and doing nothing.

Tell you what a lot of these primary care doctors today are idiots and do not know jact about anything. Unless it's written down in front of them. They just guess, and keep ordering test till they figure it out. They are more concerned about turning that room your in than figuring what's wrong with you.

When I was a Firefighter Paramedic and ran calls to doctor's offices. I chewed few ass because a few of those so called doctors about killed the patient before we got their. They'd put a 02 mask on them and not turn on the 02 and the patient be blue when we got there and the doctor never even checked on them.

He was to busy seeing other paying patients and wanted them out of the room they were in so they could put another paying patient in it. You would not believe some of the other things they did. I truely believe it was because they did not know what to do. Yes I did get talked to by Batt Chief because I should not have said some of the things I did to these pretend doctors cashing in on patients and not really helping them.

But I made it a point when ever I ran a call and I found out who a patients doctor was to let them know if they were a good doctor or bad one and why. Sue me I'd tell they why in court to.

It took me three time before I found a good primary care doctor. Find a geriatric doctor and ask if they will see you. They know their stuff and are never in a hurry with old people I been seeing mine since I was 40 and if I need a drug there's no fight to get it. He knows what I did for a living also. I built him his 1st AR 15 and took him shooting. Great guy.

Yeah there's not a whole bunch of anything you can do for the flu except ease the symptoms a bit and take Tamiflu. I just found it strange you never had it then got the flu vaccine then get it. Knock on wood even after being around all those sick people I never got anything and I had blood work every six months.

These worst thing I've ever had was kidney stones. Man I thought I was going to die before passing them. Had them twice in 20 yrs.

No flu in recent years, but I caught a bitch of a cold.  Had it for over a week, and I'm still hacking up crud.  I'm on the upswing, though.

When you get the flu, here's what to do:

Start taking a full dose of ibuprofen or naproxen as often as the dosing information allows.  Start drinking only gatorade.  If you're really anti-gatorade for some reason, do half gatorade, half water.

You won't get better any sooner, but you WILL feel much more comfortable while you're going through it.

I got my first symptoms on 2-3. Went to the doctor on 2-5. Started antibiotics.
My cough and fever would not go away. I went back to the doctor on 2-9. Doctor started Albuterol breathing treatments.
I had a severe reaction to the Albuterol. I look like I have poison ivy from head to toe.
I can't catch a break with this crap!

Got it about a week ago...can't remember the last time I was that sick.  Chills, fever, body aches...then sinuses plugged to the point it was painful...eventually my head drained into my lungs.  Took me a week to start feeling somewhat normal again.
