I have watched people in chat, and seen some posts on various boards, where a few old-timers like to blame Olympic Arms for the restriction of 7.62x39mm ammunition imports into the USA, because the OA-93 pistol was manufactured in that caliber.

Just to clear up the issue, Olympic Arms is NOT responsible for the restriction of 7.62x39 ammunition imports into the USA....the Clinton administration and the BATF are...

Just my parting shot for 2003, Happy New Year!

On the one hand, you're correct, it was Klinton's fault. On the other, I remember when that all happened, and it DID seem that Olympic was pushing the issue.

Next question...how does russian el cheapo ammo compare to chinese el cheapo ammo?

Hold on a minute and I'll dig up the accuracy tests from the AK side. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=4&f=54&t=56018&w=searchPop Barnaul FMJ was the winner.

Sure they were pushing the issue...they just lost...

You may want to travel over to www.thegunzone.com and look it up.  The owner of OA was warned AHEAD OF TIME that his introduction of the OA-93 would trigger the ban of steel core ammo and MADE IT ANYWAY.  He had ample opportunity to stop this before it happened.

I'd like to see those accuracy results, but I was really thinking more along the lines of the subjective, arbitrary political differences between the two, i.e. we can import from russia but not china.

Just think....if we could still import from both countries, competition could drive the price down to $60 per thousand?

Like it's that hard for Olympic to try to spin their way out of any responsibility 10 years after the fact. I'm glad that Mr Schuetz goes to church every Sunday and feels good about himeself. If anything, he sounds like a tool of the ATF. F 'em. They've never made anything but crap anyway.

Thanks for sharing, Boomer. I was hoping one of you would show up.

*Edited to remove the insult. I was getting carried away. Boomer is NOT the bad guy.

DaBunny:

I had the impression that Olympic Arms was responsible for the importation ban of STEEL CORE 7.62 X 39 ammos, not just the regular (lead core) 7.62 X 39 ammos.  BATF banned armor piercing handgun ammunition, and since OLY ARMS created that "pistol" in 7.62 X 39mm, the steel core 7.62 Soviet ammos was banned.

Hey, sorry to jump topic, but are you going to the get together thingy during Puyallup's gun show?  If so, where?  TGIF?

second, here is the thread in the WA section, http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=8&f=15&t=175328. Looks like they are meeting at TGIF's at noon after the gunshow.

Thank's SuperChicken!  Hey, your name and avatar reminds me of those funny commercials about "Grown in Washington" chicken radio commercials.

I hope to be at TGIF's...need to meet up with you guys.

second: Oly was only one 7.62x39 pistol manufacturer. The Oly pistols never hit the street, nor did any others.

BATF used that as an excuse...my point is, it was the Feds fault, not ANYBODY in the gun industry.

I have, in the last couple years, discovered many myths surrounding the ar15...this has led me to view the popular covenants regarding ar15's with a healthy distain...

AFTER I discovered that some well-established people were blowing a lot of smoke up our asses, I had a change of heart.
