I got so hung up on The P.I., I left out Okinawa and Korea. In Seoul, the party district is Itaewon. Back in my day, Party meant The Heavy Metal Club. For women from all over the world, The Firehouse where you went. B.C. Street outside of Kadena AFB was a wild place in the early 80's. Snake shows, Banana shows. A walk down Whisper Alley was a rite of passage. It all seemed pretty wild until I hit Olongapo.
Japan by comparison was tame. Still managed a good time, but for wild times, you had to hit the 3rd world ports. |

Oh yeah, I had many "Suffering Bastards" at Popeye's myself! Everybody I knew that had more than one Habu Sake shot went to mast too. HA! (USS Mobile Bay, 95-98) I have a friend that still works at the base in Yoko and he said the Honch is a ghost town compared to how it used to be.

Toulon was better, even if we did "share our drinking time" with a Soviet merchant. The honest catch is that for all those great liberty ports some, perhaps many went to, there were other not so great ports for some of us others. Some of the dives in Sicily,Spain and Sardania were pretty awesome though!!!

As far as the night life went there.....there wasn't any to speak of. There were 1 or 2 theaters, restaurants, shops, and bars.....all which closed down by 10 PM at night. After a week or two there, with only that to please one, it became very boring indeed. Especially from my stand point. Yea...I had the same list...once. After I got married it disappeared.  So I got stuck with shore patrol one night in San Juan when my ship was inport. My beat included the Riviera Club...and yes, they had the finest collection of "ladies" I'd ever seen in a House of Ill Repute. My SP partner and I both spoke fluent Spanish but we didn't tell anybody. Our shift ended at 2400 (Don't ask me...it was da rules.) so the Chief in charge of the Hard Hats (Permanent Shore Patrol) told us to just take off our sticks and brassards and enjoy life after midnight, which we proceeded to do! Those girls took care of hundreds of my fellow destroyermen that night. The turnover rate was just phenomenal. One of the whores made a run on my partner and when he turned her down, she started spitting fire in Spanish. We both took a quick heavy dump on her in her own language, which she never expected! You should'a seen the look on her face!  I'd been lusting after this one girl early in the evening so shortly after we got off duty she and I hit the hotel. Awesome liberty bar. I think it burned down a few years ago. It was once owned by a wise guy from the states named Tursi. |

Once again I got into a bit of an issue with one of the local husbands; man, those Sicilians don't like to share. I also think I got the worst hangover of my life from the local crap they call wine on that island. You know it's going to be bad when they serve it in recycled water bottles. As far as great liberty in the Med, Haifa was always on top of my list. Never failed, as soon as we piled into a cab and the driver found out I spoke Hebrew, next thing I know he always wanted to take us to meet some "nice Russian girls". We did and they were. I also must say I developed a taste for the Hop Leaf beer from Malta. Shame I can't find it here. |

I've still got a Foster's mug I swiped from the Pussycat. I wish I still had some of the old t-shirts, but all of those shirts you buy on Westpac seemed to shrink in strange ways after you washed them. I had one that the sleeves got shorter and another that turned into a beer belly exposing shirt. Anyone remember Tahiti Ramas in Guam? It was a great beach bar, but it got destroyed my the typhoon in '97 or so. Or how about this place....>>>

He was successful. After Marcos was deposed and Corey Aquino won election, my friend had to leave the PI. |

Some of the dives in Sicily,Spain and Sardania were pretty awesome though!!! Valletta was awesome, but some cruise ship stole our pier slot at the last minute and we ended up mooring across the canal at the cargo terminal instead. Pretty little hike or bus ride around to the other side where the fun stuff was. Malta in general was great though. |

Buddy of mine (Marine) was a couple of places (Okinawa among others) and there was one place where a woman could walk a babnana in and out of her snizz, without touching it with her hands, several times, then crush it and some sort of tapioca ensued.
If any of you guys know what place that might be, and have a picture of the front or inside of the bar, it would be a GREAT birthday card,

I remember the first night Tak-san got Habusake in Popeyes. I believe (it's still hazy) it was early '96 when we were in Drydock for 6 months. Although most of the 90's are a blur to me.
