Too sad. My prayers and condolences.

I started my LE career in Oklahoma 11 years ago and still hold everyone near and dear.

The ride-along was his father. My dad rode with me once, he loved it. My mom won't go. This has to hit the family hard. Prayers sent.

Edit to add the story text:

Salpulpa Officer And Ride-along Both Killed While Responding To Call

The Sapulpa police department was called to a wreck involving one of their own late Saturday night.

Police say patrolman Larry Cantrell was responding to a burglary call, when officers say another car came out of the intersection near Hilton Road.

Capt Rick Rumsey, Sapulpa Police: "The officer swerved to the right to avoid impact and lost control of the vehicle and it came to rest approximately 300 yards down the road."

Police say Cantrell was ejected from the car. He was flown by life-flight to a Tulsa hospital, where he died. Officer Cantrell's father, Charles was also in the patrol car, he was participating in the department's ride along program. Sapulpa police say he died at the scene.

Sgt Mike Heafner, Sapulpa Police: "it just so happens that on this particular night that he decided to come out and spend sometime with his son and its unfortunate that he happened to be in the car when this happened."

Even after the wreckage was cleared the accident left its mark on the highway. Some flowers were tucked among the shards of glass, near the accident site. And flags across Sapulpa were lowered to half-staff. The loss is taking its toll on the department.

But their showing support by wearing black bands across their badges to remember their fallen brother.

Sgt Mike Haefner, Sapulpa Police: "he was a very good officer. He was new, but he was well-liked. He was out doing his job and he was good about being there and doing hi job. He really enjoyed being a police officer. And he will be sorely missed by this community and this department."

The city of Sapulpa just annexed a large area of unincorporated area in another county. It is largely
motels, resturants and business'. The city fathers wanted the income fron the sales tax. It was several miles outside there former city limits and probably 10-15 miles to their actual city. When they annexed that area they claimed they were going to hire many new officers and open a substation there
so officers/civilians would not have to drive into the city. They have yet to do neither. This area is a high call area. Many low rent motels, truckstops so forth. Calls rangin from domestics, to robberies, to traffic accidents to a lot of drug traffic. I have heard complaints from both citizens and officers about the lack of police. Many nights they have only three or four officers on duty. They have to spend a lot of time in this new area far from the rest of the city. I pray that the cities greed is not t one of the reasons this terrible incident occured. I know some of their officers and they are a great group. Godspeed to the ofiicer and his dad. My prayers to the officers and his family

Town West? What a dump. Heard today that the speed estimation was well above 100+ mph. :(
