Just looked at that face mask call....there was no grab nor any twist. Just an incorrect call! #1 According to the rule, a grab is not required. #2 there was clearly a twist, and Rodgers chin strap ended up over his nose. |

Looked like a facemask at full speed.
Im laughing at you guys who see the ultra slow mo, see it wasnt quite actually a facemask (more like a facemask brush then shoulder pad throwdown) and cry refball. I see this all the time. We (and the refs) see the action at full speed. Then when the flags get thrown and the TV viewers and fans at the stadium get to see it at 1000fps, people shit bricks if the ref was actually wrong. Do people think refs see in bullet-time? Not everything is reviewable in ghe NFL. Look how even plays that go to replay can have one side still screaming refball when it doesnt go their way. |

Imagine seeing that in real time from 10 yards away. |

If there was a dedicated booth judge immediately reviewing plays after the flags come out, it would be quick and easy. It's not like the officials don't already have the comms in place to do it. |

did they do away with the 'touching the facemask' rule? old rule was any hand to the facemask at all was 15 yards. this was revised a few years ago to grasping = personal foul, and touching = 5 yards. Did they do away with the touching rule completely?
yay! i caught this before submitting. apparently they did. hard to say whether the mask was grasped and pulled--rodgers' head snapped around pretty hard. this is one of those calls that wouldn't have created such controversy if the overall officiating had been better this season. the officials are now determining games on a regular basis, which is exactly what the league tried so hard to avoid. |

I just wanted to strangle them and yell in their ear that this is the Detroit Lions.... it doesn't matter how good their roster is. They'll ALWAYS SUCK. |

A.R. 12.12 Third-and-10 on A30. Runner A1 runs to the A33, where he is tackled by B1, who incidentally grasps A1’s facemask on the tackle, but it is not a twist, turn, or pull. Ruling: A’s ball, fourth-and-seven, on A33. No Foul. How does a grabless "twist, turn or pull" work exactly? By sticking your thumb betwixt the openings in the face mask, then the face mask/thumb meetup in an opposite and opposing manner causing the entire helmet to twist. Otherwise known as what is clearly shown in the video. Sorry about your eyes, that may be the real root problem here, you might want to have that looked at by an optimologist. |

It doesn't matter anyway though. Barring a significant injury the man-child has a snowball's chance in hell of beating out Brady. |

Ok I am going to take a stab here, the key word in the rule is grasp Before in years past incidental face mask was accidentally grabbing face mask and then letting go of it immediately and was a 5 yard penalty and for instance when a ball runner changed direction and the defender ran past but grasped but let go immediately of the face mask The flagrant is self explanatory and was/is a 15 yard penalty. I may be totally wrong here but I am sure someone will straighten me out or explain it to me to reset my memory if so Jim Daopoulos ?@RefereeJimD Just looked at that face mask call....there was no grab nor any twist. Ok I am going to take a stab here, the key word in the rule is grasp No the key word in the rule, as it applies here, is twist. The rule defines what constitutes a "grasp" as something that causes the ball carriers head to twist. In this case, the defenders finger hit the face mask, causing the ball carriers head to twist in an obvious and violent manner. It was so obvious, that two flags were immediately thrown by different refs, and the announcers immediately said "face mask." Only after people could watch it in super slow motion could they pretend that the players head wasn't turned, and the face mask wasn't intentionally gripped by multiple digits like you normally see with a face mask call. |
