Off Duty Officer Shoots Robber

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - On Saturday, September 12th at 11:50pm, officers responded to an attempted robbery call to the 2200 block of Meadow Glade Lane which is located in the Meadows Apartment.

Officers were notified that the victim, an off duty officer, was involved in a robbery and that the off duty officer had fired his weapon and struck the suspect while attempting to defend himself from the robber.

Officers arrived on the scene and located the suspect, Eugene Webb male 24yoa lying in the parking lot. The preliminary investigation reveals that the victim was in the parking lot when the suspect approached him and produced a pistol. The suspect reportedly demanded money from the victim and pointed the gun at the victim's head. The victim of the robbery shot the suspect.

The suspect was transported to The Med in critical condition and later expired. This is an ongoing investigation.

No charges have been filed.

The off duty officer, Officer Patrick Meads 28yoa was routinely relieved of duty pending the investigation. Officer Meads has been employed with the Memphis Police Department since May of 2008.
