Is the President of The United States really going to make an appearance on a fake news show on cable?
President Obama should make the most of his "Daily Show" appearance on Wednesday night - charming the pants off Jon Stewart and the crowd, as he did when he showed up there two years ago. It's a terrific show, Stewart is a great interviewer and Obama makes good television. Then, the President should cancel all future trivial media appearances. While they may have kept him personally popular, in broad terms they've degraded the Obama brand. Obama's handlers were supposed to be smarter than this. They were supposed to use his celebrity strategically to advance his agenda. Instead, they've been indiscriminate, carpet-bombing Americans with the man they elected rather than launching communications smart weapons. Quoted: Is the President of The United States really going to make an appearance on a fake news show on cable? He was on Al Sharpton's radio show. When you go that deep into the gutter, The Daily Show is like the heights of Olympus. The President of the United States was a guest on Al Sharpton. |
|
He's trying to rally all of the segments that got him elected in 2008. Hispanics, black voters, women voters...and with the Daily Show...the youth vote. One problem. He's lost the independants. |
|
He's not doing anything useful. Let Stewart keep him occupied before he gets bored and does any more damage.

Quoted:
wonder if stewart will gush like a little girl He's going to spend the next week sniffing Obama's chair. |

Read all about it. Apparently the interview went so long they cut out a joke in the beginning about Obama being the Chairman of the Economic Council and Austan Goolsby's boss. Of course, when you are president of the United States and you appear on a fake news program, you can expect to get tweaked, and Mr. Stewart did not disappoint. "So here you are, two years in, and the question that raises in my mind is, ‘Are we the people we were waiting for?’’ Mr. Stewart asked – a riff on Mr. Obama’s much-repeated campaign line. "Or,’’ Mr. Stewart went on, as the audience laughed, "Does it turn out those people are still out there and we don’t have their number?’’ |

I love how we have a President who spends his time going on TV talk shows with comedians like David Letterman and what not.
I saw a news blurb about that tonight and was disgusted. Apparently someone forgot to tell this guy that the job of POTUS was a serious one, and it is extremely bad form for him to be doing this. It's quite obvious he cares about nothing besides his own image though. |

No it isn't. No he isn't. No he doesn't. |

This "Daily Show" appearance makes a second strategic mistake. By chumming it up with Stewart just days before the Rally to Restore Sanity, Obama and Stewart are coopting each other. The President is killing two mockingbirds with one stone. Without Obama's and Oprah's fingerprints on it, the rally might have looked like a semi-spontaneous uprising by moderate-as-hell Americans sick and tired of the extremists. Now, it'll appear to be a Democratic Party event, through and through - appearing to opponents every bit as "Astroturfed" as the biggest Tea Party events seem. (In truth, I don't think either the Tea Party gatherings or the Rally to Restore Sanity are staged; they're both authentic and filled with genuinely concerned voters. But this is as much about appearance as reality.) interesting take |

Gee....
A Parody of a News Show will host a Parody of a President. Why am I not surprised that this was coming? –– John |

Doesn't the president have more important things to be doing then campaigning and all this TV shit? Isn't this a good time to go overseas and do foreign policy or atleast act like he is being productive? Congress is out of session so is getting his TV time in while more Americans are unemployed and living on the .gov's dime?

He cannot handle opposition. The only thing he really loves is campaigning for a job he really doesn't want. Oh, he wants the power, but not the daily business of the job. And he really doesn't know how. –– John |

I don't know, I watch The daily Show most nights and I've seen Stewart be as critical of Obama and this admin as I have him bashing the other side and Bush when he was in office.
I think it'll be funny and mildly interesting, like most of Stewart's shows. I'm neither a Republican or a Democrat though I identify with Rs much more than Ds on most things) and I'm conservative and liberal in different aspects of my belief system. Stewart is more left than me in almost all of his political commentary but, that doesn't mean he's not funny and often pretty accurate. It ought to make for decent TV either way it goes. It's coming on in 3 minutes. |
|
I'm watching it now... and I've already a couple times.
ETA: Its the same old bullshit - he's stabilized the markets, health care, the economy etc.... saved taxpayers money... job growth for past 6 (or 9) months.... bla bla bla more bullshit. |
|
Ah yes, the Perpetual Campaigner makes yet another stop on his Perpetual Campaign tour.
Awesome. |
|
More and more like President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho every day.
|
|
I saw it for a couple seconds channel surfing Barry O was going on something like " well the unemployment that we have now..." that's all I stayed for I'm sure there was a Bush blame right in there somewhere.
|
|
Maybe he should spend more time competently doing his fucking job...

Lots of sandy manginas in here.... He could never be as awesome as Ronald Reagan, who was a guest on "Great Vibes! Lionel Hampton & Friends" as president in 1982....

Makes sense, Obama is a joke after all. A fake president if you will. Very fitting. Maybe next the golf channel will give him an hour long slot and the requisite 48 weeks of vacation he needs yearly. |

Regardless of your feelings on Obama you can't deny John Stewarts influence. The Daily Show is what people under 30 are listening to, like it or not. Some facts:
Just this week, the online men's magazine AskMen announced Stewart was No. 1 on its list of Top 49 Most Influential Men of 2010, derived from a poll of readers and AskMen staff. In a nonscientific online poll last year, Time magazine named Stewart "America's most trusted newscaster." Stewart captured 44 percent of that vote, with NBC's Brian Williams finishing second at 29 percent. Scientific polling in 2007 by the Pew Research Center for People and the Press found Stewart tied for fourth place as viewers' favorite news person, ranking alongside Dan Rather, Tom Brokaw, Williams and CNN's Anderson Cooper, and just behind Katie Couric, Charles Gibson and Bill O'Reilly. He and Colbert are also hosting a rally this week (I think?) that will probably draw 10's of thousands of young people to DC. You gotta understand that not everywhere in the world is as polarized as this place. There A LOT of people in the middle. John Stewart speaks directly to this group 3 TIMES A DAY (did you know his show was repeated that often?? I just discovered that). The strategy behind Obama's appearence makes perfect sense to me. It's a smart move. |

It blows my mind that people would watch that and Bill Maher. BigDozer66 |

It's a terrific show, Stewart is a great interviewer and Obama makes good television.
Eventually the style of jokes that Stewart, Colbert and most of the other comedians out there are using will go out of style. The humor is based on having the viewer feel like he's part of the "in-the-know" crowd having a Progressive political outlook. The Progressives, or Left, are closed-minded, dogmatic, and quite ignorant in actuality; they know nothing. |

The interesting thing is what 0bama (FBO) spilled during the talk -
That all of his agenda items are Progressive The Health Care bill was only a stepping stone - just like SS and the CRA, it is nothing more than a framework. Just like what Beck has been saying for 18 months! |
