Below is an e-mail that is circulating. I feel it has merit.
In a nutshell it is suggesting that we stop buying gas from Mobil/Exxon.[-!-!-] There is method to the madness. Please read it!
CrossEyed

--------------
The e-mail:
The following was sent by an economist within the fuel industry. .
I got this from a reliable source & the website listed is ligit. We also heard today from a man who is very savvy about the economy, namely, Clark Howard, and he says
that the gas prices are going to start going up again and will be high this summer-$2.00 and up. We need to do whatever we can and do it NOW.
The following makes more sense than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" routine that was going around last year.
By now, you're being programed into thinking gasoline priced at about $1.49 is cheap. We need to try an aggressive response. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take ACTION!
....The following might be a better idea....
The gas companies know full well, that we all have come to rely on our cars, and need gas. We CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together.
Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, don't purchase gasoline from the two biggest companies, (which now are one) namely EXXON and MOBIL.[-!-!-]  You see, if they are not selling, they should be inclined, to reduce their prices. Because of their size and hence market share, if they reduce their prices the other companies will too. (They would HAVE no choice?) To have an impact, we need literally millions of users. THIS IS DO-ABLE!! I am sending this note to 42 people. If each of you send it to at least 10 more..and those 10 send it to at least 10 more and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth iteration, we will have reached over one million consumers. Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on to at least 10 more e-mail address.
PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO BELOW $1.28-$1.29 AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention.

This weekend I saw diesel prices that were actually lower than regular unleaded.

Oh and by the way, exxon/mobil is reporting 1st qtr profits up 44% from a year ago.

The end is near.

Regular unleaded is $ 1.45 to $ 1.49 around here. I don’t know why it’s gone up so much the last few weeks; the price of oil hasn’t much.

Ummm... I hate to say it, but the email at the top - its not gonna work. Here is why (in part).

Aside from dependence on foreign oil and restrictions on drilling at home, we have also got restrictions on the number of refineries. Most importantly, we have restrictions on power plants - building new ones.

You say so what. Here is the deal - on the west coast there is one (1) non electrically fired oil refinery. Thats right - all others are electrical. The one that is not is fired by natural gas - a very inefficent fuel for industry.

As a result of the water shortage in the west and the power cunch we are going to see an increase in gas prices. The water, BTW, is going to save the fish - not to power or for farmers.

I have been informed by an *unnamed* VP for one of the Pac NW's power companies that we should look forward to rolling brown outs by June and $2.50 to $3.00 per gallon by August.

Companies like Alchoa Aluminium will be able to sell their power back at such a profit that they will close the factory doors, pay their employees, and still make a profit for their shareholders.

Now think of the inflation increase when we run low on AR's and we have to ask them to fire the plant back up! All kidding aside, look for a major inflation bump in the 4th quarter of this year.

Bottom line we are paying for not building infrastructure to keep up the demand.

All the political hacks will say this is the fault of Bush, not Klinton...

BOHICA
Starting June 1 all gas companies have to start selling the "SUMMER FUEL"  You know, the more oxygenated gas.  This is of course more expensive then normal gas.  One reason why gas is expensive now is because the Oil companies aren't making as much as they can... because if they don't sell their stockpile before June 1, they have to wait until fall when they can sell the "winter gas" again.  What a mess.

Okay before we start smashing gas companies lets put things in perspective.

1 gal gas = 1.63 avg. right now.

This gal of gas must be sent through a desalter, through a furnace, to an atmospheric pipe still, to and then some goes to a vaccum pipe still. From the stills it is again heated and sent through a reactor with a catalyst, hydrocracking, etc.............

1 12 oz bottle of water = 1.19, if you buy it at the store, I know you can turn on a faucet.

Ran through filter, bottled.

Also why would you boycott just one company, or how could you. There are one set of gas lines coming to the terminal where I live. How do you know what gas you are buying, There are very few refinerys in the US. If you quit buying gas from one company all they have to do is lower thier prices 5 cents and everyone will run to them. One month later the gas prices will rise back up when the supply starts to dwindle.

Gas actually has the lowest profit margin of anything (almost) coming out of a refinery, there is just alot of it. Thier prices are set by the complex process and the price of crude. However refineries make a lot of money selling waxes, plastics, coke, and lube.

If you want gas prices to drop you will have to quit buying gas from everyone, no more driving to the range guys get your bicycles out.

The economist within the fuel industry must work for shell. Lets not buy gas from exxon, lets buy all our gas from shell. Smart marketing right.

The profits that exxon is showing is from crude oil sells not from the sells of gas. If you want the price of crude to go down quit buying products that began life as crude oil. If you quit buying gas from exxon all they have to do is sell there gas to shell who in turns sells it to you. Prices Will Go Up as competition goes down. There is only so much oil in the ground. That is why OPEC wants to reduce production, when the oil is gone they are gone, it is a non-renewable source.

It will only go up here in the prk as there is currently a refinery fire in carson.tomorrow will probably rise 25cents.Of course we have fuel shortages and gas shortages that the commies cant work out but can have time to look at a handgun and liscense bill. What a fuken state.

Buy a more fuel efficient car and live closer to work.  No other plan will work, as already explained by other posters.

I have also heard that Clinton's EPA is requiring the refinieries to buy more pollution reducing equipment.
Maybe I will keep my Civic for a few more months.
(Good policy by the Dem's; sabotage the economy before the Republicans take over. Then blame the Republicans for the recession)

More bad news.
There was an oil refinery fire in Kalicommiefornication. Last time there was an oil refinery fire the price of gas shot up.
Out here where I liv gas has held steady at $1.38 a gallon.

CARSON, Apr. 23:    A fire that apparently broke out in a cracking unit at the Tosco refinery in Carson this afternoon sent up giant balls of flame and a towering plume of black smoke.

There is always alternative fuel like ethanol you can buy new pickups and probably cars made to run excusivly on this fuel. most are fleet models though from what ive heard the problem is there arnt that many ethanol stations around ussually a few per state of corse ther is more in some places than others and this could change if gas prices go up dramaticly making ethanol a more attractive fuel. and ethanol is made from renuable recorces like corn so OPEC can shove it up there rich Azz im sure others here know more about it than i do so go ahead and chime in i belive crrent ethanol prices are around $2.00 per gallon but i could be wrong and with more production that could come down but who knows

lets see...profits are up 50% for exxon and mobile wonder why at 2 bucks a fucking gallon.

now the 'summer' gas is coming out that is better for the environment-didn't they just fucking come out with their "winter" gas that did the same thing except raise prices?  Looks like we can expect gas prices to go up 2 times a year-

HEY MOBIL AND EXXON....GO FUCK YOURSELF!!!!

Yeah go buy an "Alternative Fuel" vehicle and get limber because you will be bending over all the time! All the gas companies used to try to beat everyone else's "LOWBALL" price and now they are trying to beat everybodie's "HIGHBALL" price!!! They are smarter now than they used to be.
Why sell for $1.25 when you can sell for $1.75 and everybody still's buy's just as much????
I have been hearing that it is all the Enviromental Crap that Clinton/Gore got passed that is causing the increase. If Bush even thought about trying to repeal any of it he woulg get roasted by every bleeding heart enviro"mental" nut in the US.
Fasten your seatbelt's we are experiencing turbulence!!!

Got the Land Rover blues?  Last week I spent $40 filling up.  I let my wife drive my BMW sports car because it's like an econo box compared to that monster.

$40 to fill up! HA!- i laugh and wave my private parts in your direction.  your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elder.... oh sorry,....... yes quite painful when i was driving 2500-3000 miles a month.  now thankfully i'm down to about 1000 a month for now.  i rarely see the anything less than a $35 visit at the one armed bandit these days.

fuel usage (note i skirt the word economy) was tolerable at $1.49 - but as we approach euorpean rip-off prices for 'petrol' i fully expect to see $2.50 a gallon for hi-season summer travel.

thieving bastards!!!!!!!!

Why has nobody mentioned the .30 to .40 cent tax on Gas. Lets complain and whine about the oil companies, but not about all the taxes we pay each year.

I pay more in taxes per year than I pay for gas, even if gas is over $2.00 a gallon.

Also look at California right now. The electricity price gets fixed, (people would complain if they hiked it), and now they have to deal with rolling blackouts. Same principle energy has a cost, whether it comes from a hose or a plug if you are not willing to pay start walking and using candles.

CrossEyed and Cleatus,

While you are telling people off go tell your employer you will work for room and board, no profit for yourself. Also stop by every shop on your way home and tell them if they dont sell at cost they can go "fuck" themselves. Because like the Democrats you believe in Socialism not Capitalism. I guess there really are people in this world who believe they should never make a profit. If you have any Pre-bans I am sure you would sell them for less than $850, right. Or should only certain people be allowed to make a profit. Should only certain people be allowed to own guns. This is the mentality Gore posess,do you?

If you want to complain about rising cost complain about this:

1.More Strigent Enviromental Regulations
2.Ban on Drilling In Parts of The US, particulary Alaska
3.Clinton Gore Energy Policy
4.Enviro-Nazis

Don't Complain about when 1 company makes money, if you had a chance to make money you would also, complaining about it is crazy unless you are willing to go to work and not expect to get a paycheck for doing so.

of course we could all go out and buy honda insights or anothor one of the gas electric cars. the insight is uglu but 60+ mpg is looking quite attactive. if the gas goes high enough for long enuff (spelling) the average mpg of all xars/pickups will go up it will eventually will equill out sure you used to pay a lot less for gas but you were buying a lot more gas to in the 70s mpg average went way up over prevous levels it can and will go up qite a bit again

I just payed around a $1.80 here in the Detroit area. Most gas prices around here are between $1.80 to $2 a gallon. I knew I should not of sold my Neon and bought a Jeep. I dont put more than $6 at a time in my tank. No need for me to hurry and give them a big wad of money all at once. We all need to do something or it is only going to get worse.
