Starting rate of a GS12 should be about $55,000.

What agency?

Is it with our favorite group of people?

$55K is base pay then you must calculate COLA (cost of living adjustment) onto that base pay to get the actual pay. Heres a link the the actual salary of locations (skim downt he page to look at all the cities; if your city is not specifically indicated then click the last link "rest of US")

In Indiana where this original thread writer is the pay is $62,474.

oops left out the link: http://www.opm.gov/oca/06tables/indexGS.asp

think of it like this; you need to have experience to meet that requirement and all the grades lower. So since you do not have any college you would come in at a GS 4 or 5 so you need about 8 plus years of experience in this specific field and you had better meet every single experience qualifier since you lack the education.

This basicly translates into each of your KSA (questions required for announcement) better be a couple of pages apiece single spaced to prove you have the necessary experience for this position.

I also hope you have veterans preference etc as that will really help.

So get that resume together (write your own do not use the templated OF-612 as you just cannot get enough info in it) and really spend alot of time explaining your knowledge, skills, and abilities for each question.

Best of luck and let us know how it goes.

I won't tell
I was contacted base on experiance and training. Damn all those classes and range time may make a differance.
I always said that I don't do fire 'cause it don't miss, people with guns do.

College, how many years you want?
If I would sit down and get it together, at least 2 degrees.
Paper don't mean a thing to me.
I am given a job and it is done.
When I worked the "street" as a medic, dangerous was a way of life. You learn to accept that the next day may never come.
Don't get me wrong, I do not have a death wish. Having been fucked up two times in my life, I live with the thought that I have never given enough. We ask others to give for us, so what do I have to give for them?

And that is a problem?
Over confidence leads to mistakes.

I hope you can improve things... the FPS folks I have worked with down here, are mired in redtape and posturing - which of course is normal... unfortunately.

BTW, I thought you were boasting about the fact that you were making more than a 12. Dick assumption on my part.
Link Posted: 3/30/2006 6:54:37 PM EDT
A LOT of people got that e mail.
The FPS is a part of Homeland Security--the actual agency itself is Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
When it gets down to nut-cutting--it's the CONTOMS folks that are looking for fresh meat.

There is no age limit--as long as you have the specs for the job. requires a waiver or 12 weeks at FLETC in Glenco, GA.

If you want to go work for Josh Vayer--then it's for you. Teaching mostly, some operational stuff involved.
There certainly isn't any "cough cough" secret squirrel stuff about it.

Rotsa Ruck,
