WASHINGTON (AFP) – Two US F-15 fighter jets on Saturday intercepted a
small civilian plane flying near Camp David, the presidential retreat
where Barack Obama is spending the weekend with his family.

NORDO procedures have been tightened alot over the years and will only get worse

The chosen one must be protected.

Lots of things all over the country must be protected, get too close to one of them and it gets spicy.
It's actually pretty interesting to listen to.

I've been listening to the combat air patrol all weekend and heard this all go down.

This is the aircraft. Looks like they let him continue on later.  http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N25MJ/history/20110611/1500Z/KALB/KHGR

The F-15s are from Jacksonville, FL.  Only one of the pair does this actual intercept, the other remains in the CAP.  Lucky-5 was the intercepting F-15.  Expended 45 flares.  A USSS helo, Harrier-11, completed the escort to KHGR.

Pretty regular occurrence any time POTUS is at Camp David.

My dad was involved in P-40 violations multiple times when he was the active duty IP for the MD guard. Right seat on a night X country in a C-12 or U-21 checking out a guy who just recently transitioned to fixed wing. Pre-9/11 it wasn't that big of a deal just a paper fuck. A buddy of mine is a C-130 pilot in the MD air guard and their instrument approach puts you uncomfortably close to the D.C. ADIZ. He said for the first 2 yrs it was in effect someone busted it every drill weekend.

F-15s from JAX? Unless something has changed in the last year and a half I wasn't aware of any USAF fighter assets there.

Years ago in had to fly over Camp David and just to cover my ass I requested confirmation from ATC that it was cold so many times that it annoyed them.  In my defense this was shortly after the dreaded DC ADIZ C-150 incursion.

125th Fighter Wing at KJAX, not new at all.

What's a P-40 violation?   I've never heard that term.

When Bush flew into Tampa a few years ago, they closed the airspace all the way out here at my DZ airport. Three Cessnas made it in to land before the F-16s got here to check on them.

As far as I know, no one got caught.

Not something you want to test.

Presidential TFRs are well organized.

Talk about stupid.

And I don't mean the pilots.

We were intercepted over a Presidential TFR back when Bush used to come up to Kennebunk, ME..........trouble is we were a US Navy P-3C Orion Flying in support of the TFR. The F-16 from the VT ANG asked the AWACS if he wanted them to shoot us down jokeingly. I recall our Transponder had malfunctioned and we were in Cipher voice so we didnt respond to radio calls. its was kinda funny, the F-16 flew off our Port wing until we unfucked everything.

The new rules on reporting a nordo aircraft (aircraft out of comms with ATC) are very short.  And this applies all over the NAS not just near a TFR...  It seems like we are going to see this crap a lot more often.

Its funny this is what caused it to happen.

The near miss between the ABX and FDX was much more indicative of any "failure" of the system.

I agree the system isn't perfect but alot of people (pilots and controllers) work really hard to avoid being the latest mega breaking news sensationalist hit piece everyday

The NWA pilot's "heated discussion" made the news in a huge way just like the sleeping controllers did.

Congress critters saw it and figured their constituents did too and started talking..... and next thing you know we have FLMs breathing down our neck pointing at every plane on the scope asking when the last time you talked to each guy was and a hundred different rules for visually indicating that you have talked to each plane in a manner that a even a FLM could understand it.

Look for a news report of F-15s intercepting a small aircraft near Camp David this weekend.  It seems inevitable.  125th FW has the duty this weekend at least for now.

I was reading about the woman who recently made friends with a couple F16's

Her computer didn't work so she didn't check for TFR's and didn't feel like talking on the radio.

Expensive practice for us.

Not to hijak, but that old lady is a loon! They should yank her  PPL for that stunt! She is from an "Upercrust" family, and thinks her actions reasonable! She even thought the F-16's were "Coming Down For A Look" "To see how cute my plane was"! Apparently she just won a ribbon at Osh. Jeeesh!!

I wouldn't say that but she definitely needs to realize her little stunt cost all of us alot of money.

But probably less than BHO's fundraising trip cost us

I chose my words carefully. If you saw the video interview she gave you would understand what I'm saying. She was like a real life version of the Catherine Hepburn character in the movie "The Aviator"! Anyone with an operating brain cell knows F-16's do not flydown and form up on a civvy plane, to "See How Cute" it is! I vote to yank her license! An accident waiting to happen....
