I've noticed that the newest Norton AV now requires a unique key which is checked against their server for re-use. There's a way to get around it by activating via phone but that's not working for me.

Anyone familiar with this?

the phone activation doesnt work anymore. perhaps a week ago many pirated NAV2006 stuff went dead. Probably a stealthy live update patched it. I know first hand. Anyway, Zone Alarm has a pretty good suite now called Zone Alarm Security Suite. Many PC mags both print and online rate it better because its more streamlined and doesnt tax your resources like NAV does. It was hard for me to switch, I've used Norton since 1997.

I wouldn't use Norton even if it was free anymore. It nags with pop-up windows all over the place, and updates are far bigger than they need to be. Use AVG... it's much less bloated, just as effective, and free. free.grisoft.com

Use Avast. Norton is like an open door by comparison.

/Avast is free.
