Ok...I love fireworks. I got my hands on some 'professional grade' salutes...essentially, you drop it down a tube, light the fuse, it makes a nice boom, flies about 150-200 feet, and then makes an EARTH SHATTERING KABOOM that quite literally makes the ground shake, the windows shake, and just gets me JACKED UP with adrenaline.

I am looking for something else to make some noise at festive times of the year that I don't need an explosives license or what not to handle, and is fairly inexpesive...I have heard of carbide cannons, but have no experience with them. I have found some that are fairly cheap, but don't know how loud they are or what they're capable of.

I want something that will make the neighbors 5 streets over say, "What the hell was that?" if that helps.

Any help in this area would be appreciated.

Those "professional grade" shells you got were nothing more than a shell filled w/ flash powder w/ a small lift charge (blackpowder, pyrodex, etc...) underneath.

If that helps

Either way, they were awesome.  I loved them.  I think I missed my calling in life.

LOL, I hear ya bro.

I put on a display every year for my friends (I get a permit to do so). Every year i try to outdo myself, choreograph to music, remote grand finale etc...

It really is the high point of my life every year

There is no greater thrill than blowing shit up (except maybe driving like an idiot in the snow w/ RWD).

FWIW, those shells you got were prolly illegally stolen from a real fireworks company or some of the "black market" stuff you can buy from "quasi legal" dealers that is most certainly "overloaded" exceeding the (IIRC 50 mg limit) of flash. Stay away from that stuff...the QC is VERY poor on a lot of it. I've seen shells like that explode a few feet in the air above the launch tube...not good

My cousin found one of those artillery simulators in the crawlspace of a townhouse that his parents moved into years ago when we were teenagers. He held on to it for a few months until hi mom found it and called the fire dept. The bombsquad later arrived and took it out in the middle of a near by soccer field and let it off.

There were a few other items found in that crawlspace as well.
-10 linked 25mm rounds(they had a black plastic nose with a steel dart inside)
->50 cal ammo box with four purple military smoke grenades

The bomb squad did'nt get the last two items.

When I was a wee lad, I visited a friend of mine who lived near a lake.  In February, so the lake was frozen.  He carted a 5-gallon pickle pail out to the ice, already half filled with something.  Next, he added about a half gallon of sand, and either gasoline or kerosene on top of that, and said "well, we better get gone".  The pail was all but 1" filled.

We get to the shoreline about 200 yards away, and KAAAAA-TOOOOOM!  Blows a column of water into the air showering ice all around.

To this day, I don't have any idea what was in that bucket.  It was pretty damn cool, though.

In the unlikely event that you don't blow yourself up, it will probably be the most gawd-awful loud explosion you have ever heard.

Old guy I know told of some idiot who filled a weather balloon and set it off.  Rattled windows throughout the entire town...

Part of an email sent from a buddy in Iraq:

"Happy New Year!  I hope everyone had a nice celebration.  We
celebrated not by watching the apple drop but by watching a building
drop.  I had my EOD guys rig a building to explode and at midnight we
blew it up.  With over two hundred pounds of explosives and illumination
mortar rounds on the roof for a fireworks effect, it was quite a show
and a huge explosion."
