Just received a set of new PVS 14s from TNVC, and let me tell you.... WOW! Also, I used a Surefire RC 2 suppressor on 5.56 and 7.62... Lame
Many people have asked if they should get a suppressor or NVGs first. I would absolutely go with the NVG's.. Major giggle factor. |

Shut your whore mouth.
Nods, suppresses and body armor is what separates us from animals. Get all three. |

Try it with and without a suppressor, then get back to us. |

You, sir, are incorrect. All fun things are necessary and of great value.

All I hear is "Bla, Bla, Bla I'm a filthy hore"!!
Get both..... |

Suppressors are there for when you need to actually use the rifle. Self defense or end of the world scenario. I have my own range in the country, but with neighbors, a can is a huge help. I can shoot much earlier (or later) without disturbing them. I asked and they said they can't even hear the canned 5.56. So I can pretty much shoot whenever I want because of it. |

Just my opinion, if I had to do it over, I would have gotten the NODs before the suppressors.

Yep, NODs first.
Thermals are cool too, but cost a pretty penny. |

I had experience with NVGs, MGs, and all kinds of fun stuff, but the first time I shot 300 blk suppressed I literally giggled.

You are correct.

I really need to stop buying all this cheap gun stuff and save up for a quality gun, can, and NV.
Starting today. |

I really have no use for NODs. No where to shoot at night. They would just be a toy for looking around. A very expensive toy. I used PVS14's and 7's in the Army... so any budget NODs will just be a huge disappointment to me.

Get both. Well, since you asked me, I would go with night vision first. I think you just won the thread. But really, who were you before you were changed to getboth? That is fucking amazing. But I think you are wrong. |

View Quote This is what keeps preventing me from ponying up for NODs. I live in the suburbs, don't hunt, and don't have access to empty land. Thousands of dollars in night shooting gear would just sit in my safe unused. |

Never but the 25 dB worth of reduction is going to mean very little to help your hearing. I will take what I can get- still more useful than NODs in the vast majority of home defense scenarios. Now that said, there is a reason my HD gun is a .300blk suppressed with subsonics. It will make a massive difference for my hearing versus no suppressor, and I need to save as much as I can at this point. |

Never but the 25 dB worth of reduction is going to mean very little to help your hearing. As far as permanent damage goes, I ain't a doctor, so I cannot really say, but for immediate effects? Yeah, there's a marked difference in immediate effects of an unsuppressed MP-5 fired indoors from the shoulder (extremely loud ringing, making it difficult to hear anything afterwards,) a suppressed M-4 fired from right beside you by someone else ("dang that was LOUD! But I can still hear things,) and a .357 mag fired right next to your left ear by a guy you are fighting with (absolute and total deafness for more than 10 minutes. Like, "come on guys, why are you messing with me by moving your mouths and not making any noise. Wait, why do I sound to myself like I am under water. Crap. I can't hear anything.) An unsuppressed Mini-14 fired in my direction from about ten feet away was closer to the .357 mag than the MP-5, but the total loss was much shorter. I am sure all of them, along with outdoors exposure without ear protection, all contributed to my constant "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee," but there is a difference. |
