Alternatively we could just ban kids in places where guns go.

Why not ban alcohol from bars.....you know.....ban alcohol from places where drunks go.

Perhaps we should just flat out ban crime in places where defenseless people go.

Damn if life were this easy.

Those are awesome responses....especially the red one.  I'd love to see that assclown respond to that.

"These are the places where our children and families gather and it is common sense that community centers, playgrounds and swimming pools are safer without guns," Nickels said in a statement.

It is common sense that children are more susceptible to predators and harm in areas where they are prevented from being protected.

Sounds like Nickles and Fryer are glossing over the fact that while the city is the steward, that land belongs to the public.

Illegal and unconstitutional.

Yeah, i bet if they had a sign "No guns allowed" at the 2008 Folklife Festival at Seattle Center, the guy would have turned around and went home!

How about a law stating that if you shoot someone without good cause (self defense), you get arrested and go to jail? Or a law banning felons from public places...

Anytime someone bans a gun in a location, they should then provide full-time security.  All patrons must pass through a security checkpoint, and there should be at least 1 armed guard per 50 people.

Damn laws! A man cant commit a simple mass murder these days without having to worry about going to jail for a firearms violation! Whats next? Are they going to make firebombs illegal too and put arsonists out of business? Where does it end?

Washington has a "preemption"  law...anything Nickles tries to pass that conflict with state law, will be considered a non law.

Nice. So now they want to make it so you can't protect your kids.

He's trying to close those down! He wants Seattle to be a gunless, nudeless town.

Quoted:

Alex Fryer, Nickels' spokesman, said as a property owner the city is allowed to impose conditions on people using its facilities.

Here's the deal, jackass.  It's not "yours" it belongs to the PEOPLE whose taxes PAID for it.  You are STEWARDS, expected to act LAWFULLY in your discharge of caretaking those properties.

Mayor Greg Nickels on Friday proposed a rule to ban guns in more than 500 Parks and Recreations Department facilities across Seattle where children and youth go - places like sports fields, playgrounds and swimming pools.

"These are the places where our children and families gather and it is common sense that community centers, playgrounds and swimming pools are safer without guns," Nickels said in a statement.

They're still doing the old "Do it for the children!" routine.  I suppose, like the race card, it never gets old to a Socialist.

"We believe the firearm safety rule is consistent with that," Fryer said.

And this is a skillful ploy on the antigunners' side, to frame the debate as "firearm safety".  In order to be against their schemes they try to make those opposed to be against "firearm safety."

I think that making assault, murder, rape , and robbery illegal in pubic places would be more efficeint.

oh wait, we have those laws!!! but we dont want to ENFORCE THEM, that would be too troubling for the person wanting to commit them!!!!!!!!!! so we'll ban the guns instead!!
