Anyone have any juicy details yet?
Seen this posted with "we changed carbine optics forever".

Looks like a RDS type with big window and FTS magnifier to me
Link Posted: 1/13/2015 6:36:51 PM EST
Whatever,
It will suck and whatever that crap is on the side will get in the way and be broken.

Army is not gonna buy it.

Space shuttle door gunners on the other hand......

The back of the unit looks too small to be a magnifier to me. I can't see a joint either, looks directly attached to the rail and poking out to the side. Laser of some sort? Either way, that module is ugly as fuck.

If Leupold put out a red dot with fantastic battery life or TFO internals, I'd be very interested though.

Costa grip side-optic.

For when you Costa grip and your hand obstructs your optic. Kind of like parascope

Got it (partial copypasta for coc)
http://gearscout.militarytimes.com/2015/01/13/d-evo-wlco-combo/

At SHOT 2015, Leupold will introduce their LCO 1X red dot along with the paradigm-shifting D-EVO inline, prismatic 6x magnifier. The two combine to make a supercharged 1-6 x 20mm Red Dot reflex optic with a CMR-W reticle.

The D-EVO optical magnifier is the most interesting part of the system. It’s a very clever optic that gives the user an almost instantaneous “switch” between 1X and 6X views. With proper cheek weld, what you see is similar to a bifocal lens from your granddad’s glasses- from top to bottom: a clear 1X view up top, then a blurry thin line, then a magnified image. Without changing cheek weld, you can transition between 1X and 6X with just a slight nod of your head.

The D-EVO has a zigzag shape when viewed from above and places the objective lens offset to the right side of the red dot just above the ejection port. Through a series of prisms and lenses, the image gathered by the objective banks left and exits a small ocular lens that is below and directly behind the red dot’s window. it is completely self-contained and must be zeroed separately from the red dot.

MSRP as a combo with the D-EVO and LCO is $2999.99. The D-EVO alone will MSRP for $1874.99; pricing on the LCO is MIA.

$3000 MSRP for the combo?

Not with the contents of my wallet.

I'll pass.

Upon seeing the price, Costa just ordered twelve of them to mount on his airsoft guns before his next tour stop in Japan.

For $3000 that thing better eat bullets and shit nukes.

Airsoft people will buy them

I don't think so, S&B 1x8, USO 1x8 can be had cheaper .

It's a "paradigm shift" which makes it worth $3000.

Just add $100 for each mention of the word "operator" and $50 per "tactical."

Yep. And the RDS/magnifier combo kinda blows for 3-gun. The "dot" gets bigger when it needs to get smaller, and vice-versa.
Link Posted: 1/13/2015 7:28:37 PM EST
For 3 grand it should at least have a built in LRF and ballistic calculator.

LOL

A Russian company was advertising an optic which did the exact same thing a while back......
I wonder if I can still find their website.....

I wonder if Loopie purchased the design from them or just liberated the concept.......
I believe the Russian design was laid out vertically rather than horizontally like this one.....

Its a neat idea. Its expensive and bulky now, but in a couple of years of innovation (and chinese engineering...) there may be an affordable version for us mere mortals.
Link Posted: 1/13/2015 8:05:59 PM EST
With a price point like that, I'm inclined to think that Leupold hates customers.

Aimpoint and Eotech have been doing this concept for almost a decade now. It works a lot better on paper than in real life.

Must be eye actuated technology. shit not even that.

You;ed think cheap digital tech would make its way into the optics market.

I've very interested in the LCO, and expected it to be priced similarly to a T1.
Link Posted: 1/14/2015 11:52:53 AM EST
This is where I first read about it.

http://www.weaponevolution.com/forum/showthread.php?6424-NEW-Leupold-LCO

It has an etched reticule, which would solve my astigmatism problems with red dots.

Regarding the EVO combo 1 or 6x thingy; it's already listed on optics planet for $2,399.

Love my Leupold scopes but fuck that noise at that price.

More shit for those to bolt/slide/attach/tape/glue/velcro/bubble gum on to their already over-shitted "carbine".

Hitler was right.

Okay.... now I see the point of this thing. It's not a flip-magnifier, it's two screens in one unit.

If this had been released 5-10 years ago, before the proliferation of excellent low-powered variables (1-6X, 18X, etc), it might have been a game changa. Or if it were $500.

Now, at that price.... not impressed.

Interesting, looks like the magnified window is on an angle so you don't have to adjust your head position between the two sight options.
That might screw with people like me that still shoot low magnification with both eyes open.

That has DHS written all over it though.

Being a duel optic makes it slightly more palatable.

Except they offset the long range scope instead of the short range red dot, which could be a significant issue at range.

Perfect optic for my new Intacto rifle!
Link Posted: 1/14/2015 12:29:46 PM EST
I fail to see the 2500$ difference between this, and a regular scope with a MRD on top
Link Posted: 1/14/2015 12:32:06 PM EST
Not for lefties. That would bug the shit out of me having that module blocking my vision.
Link Posted: 1/14/2015 12:36:59 PM EST
Why not just get a VCOG/RMR combo?

Interesting concept. A bit on the big side from OP pic and rather pricey but who knows later down the pipeline. Would love to check it out firsthand.
