Not my style, but its cool to see Indian companies go down this route.

Kinda looks like a mix between a lambo and a spyker.

Do not want.

where's the trailer hitch??
Link Posted: 1/6/2012 8:19:25 AM EDT
Isn't it kinda heavy for 230 horse?
Link Posted: 1/6/2012 8:20:44 AM EDT
i'm not a car guy by any stretch but

According to the first information, the Avanti could be powered by a tuned Ford EcoBoost 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with VVT (variable valve timing), capable of 240 hp and 366 Nm and coupled with a six-speed manual gearbox.

Doesn't that seem kind of anemic for the title of a "supercar"?

WAY too heavy. It was the first thing I looked at when I saw what they were powering it with.

Is that what passes for a "supercar" these days?

3400+ pounds with 240 horsepower? "Supercar" is not a word I would use to describe it.

The interior looks like it was put together by a Best Buy car stereo installer.

I guess maybe if it's $13k and meant to be a supercar relative to a Hyundai, then maybe.

Looks kinda cool. I'd never own one though.

Yeah, I used supercar in the title because the Topgear article was the first one I read and they referenced it as the super(ish) car. The honda engine should be a nice improvement though.

Nice design, but I need a 4 seater

To be fair, the Lotus Evora weighs in at 3,200 lbs and is powered by a Toyota 274 hp minivan (Sienna) engine. I don't know if I'd call the Lotus Evora a "supercar" but it's certainly a step above most luxury brands.
Link Posted: 1/6/2012 8:25:35 AM EDT
Geez, and I thought the last Avanti was underpowered even with a Paxton blown 289!

New "supercar" from India.

Sorry, No
Link Posted: 1/6/2012 8:27:55 AM EDT
There used to be a show about a small indian custom car shop.

If it's built like anything they made, don't look under the hood or body. Just accept the shiny rims and paint.

276HP and 3049 pounds. The "S" model is 345HP and 3168 pounds. http://www.lotuscars.com/en/lotus-evora-specification
Their MSRPs are closer to Corvette money than Ferrari.

I bet their new car smell is actually curry.

Apparently they did not learn lessons from the underpowered DeLorean. The Ecoboost is a great engine, but it is does not have the hp for a super car.

"supercar" <> supercar.

There is a 394 hp Honda engine for it coming online at a later date.
Link Posted: 1/6/2012 8:43:36 AM EDT
Smash a twin turbo six in it, and maybe. But super cars don't have four bangers.

thats barely better than a sports coupe still. and thats not even a sports car, let alone a super car.

when they hit 0-60 in less than 3.0 they can announce it.

Yeah, the numbers are not very far off from the Indian car at all. I wonder how much the car will cost. The Evora is definitely close to supercar pricing, seeing as the base price is around $90k.

As for Corvettes, I'm saddened to see GM/Chevy moving away from the initial concept, which was affordable supercar performance. The basic Corvettes are still a good deal but when GM wants over $100k for a ZR-1, that's supercar pricing territory.

"Supercar" seems kind of nuts...at this point even "sports car" is stretching the truth a great deal. But it's a step in the right direction for India. I'm looking forward to the development and modernization of a huge nation that is friendly to the US, situated around nations which are not.

A Nissan Maxima has more horsepower than that thing. LOL!

A couple of weeks ago, BBC World Service had a long panel segment about automobile design. One of the panelists was a GM design guy responsible for the Asian market. He was talking about how car design in India is different than in the US or UK. In focus group testing of automobile design concepts in India, the number one concern for interior design was that the dashboard be equipped with a little alcove for placing an idol. The number two consideration was little open pockets - everywhere - for phones, glasses, notepads, cigarettes, etc. Passenger safety features were not even on the radar.

That'll look cool with 87 people clinging to the roof on the way to the train station.

Not a bad step into the sports car market. Especially when they add the Honda motor.

Don't forget that Enzo's first car had a mostly Fiat motor, and a Fiat transmission.

ya i was a huge ferrari fan most of my life....i mean ya the F40 is just amazing but that 550 maranello? omg!

i like how he went from humble begginings to ranting how no american cars would ever win le mans and then the GT40 got first and second :) brings a smile to my face.

That's actually a really nice motor! I rented one to pick up some people that wouldn't fit in my car and I was VERY surprised when I floored it down the on ramp. I wasn't expecting that thing to have any balls at all but it really is surprisingly not bad at all!

Uh guys, you watch the TG Christmas special a couple weeks ago?

WHERE THE FUCK IN INDIA ARE YOU ACTUALLY GONNA DRIVE THAT THING?

A few rich guys will buy them to show off...and be stuck in traffic with the Tatas and having their homely fenders smashed off by trucks left, right and center.

It has the eyes of a Ferrari 458 Italia and the mouth of a newer Mustang.

I don't like it.

Lotus' supercar is the new Esprit, not the Evora.
