This weekend I am trading in my 2013 3500 Dually Diesel 4x4 Megacab. I simply do not need so much truck any longer. It has 13,000 miles on it and is bone stock. I beleive everyone needs a truck of some sort so I am going to buy a 1/2 ton full size. I am set on a 4x4 and need some towing capacity (light landscape trailer, motorcycles, etc). I also need an extended cab. Bed length isnt as important 6' or 8' will work. As this vehicle wont see more then 4000 miles per year and is really a 4th vehicle I dont need anything high end luxury but I dont want vinyl bench seats either. I am really leaning towards a 2016 F150 3.5 Eco extended cab if I can find one. I would also consider a Chevy but the performance of the ecoboost is hard to ignore. Now seems a great time to buy since there are left overs out there and dealers appear to be willing to deal as year end approaches. Thoughts?

Silverado. Hands down. Bought a 2016 a few months ago and love it. Ride is unbeatable and the new 5.3 runs better than my 2010 did with the same motor. I got the double cab in deep ocean blue with the all star package. Was $35k out the door
For some reason I couldn't bring myself to buy a 6 cylinder truck even if I did like the looks of the f150. I put a Gibson dual exhaust kit on mine and sounds awesome |

I like my stepfathers F150 Crew Cab 4x4, it’s an older 5.4L. If I was in the market, F150 would be top of the list… 200,000+ miles and it’s solid, runs and drives smooth.

Tundra is a pretty capable 1/2 ton that has a decent interior and drives really well.

You are going to love that f150 with the 3.5. Mine is an 11 I love it.

This weekend I am trading in my 2013... View Quote I'm going to assume the 2013 is paid off. If the trade in value of the 2013 is at least the total costs of getting a smaller 2017, the do it. Otherwise just keep the current truck (for at least 7 more years) |

First post didn't nail it, he'd have to drive a Dodge. I bought an 16 F150 Fx4 Crew cab with 3.5 ecoboost a month and a half ago for $41k out the door, sticker was $52k. I love the truck but I only have 900 miles on it.

If you are ordering, you are fine. If you expect to walk onto a lot and get an extended cab F150 with the top end engine, you might be disappointed. I work a side job at a Ford dealership that has over 200 F150s in stock and probably only a few that are extended cab 3.5 ecoboosts (not sure if any are 4wd).
The full 4dr does not add much money so that's what 90% are. |

I didn't like the half tons after I sold my ram 2500 diesel. They didn't feel like a truck, but I still couldn't justify a diesel. So for about the cost of an XLT f150, I bought a 4 door F-250 XL model with the FX4 pkg and a 6.2L gas motor. I've been really happy that I went this route. The motor is a dog, but is reliable. You may wanna go a similar route if you like the extra space of a superduty and solid front axles.

My brother has trucks needs a lot like yours and has a Tundra for that and it is perfect.

I went with a GMC, if you go with a GM get the 6.2L. It makes 420hp stock and I get low 20s on the highway running 80-90mph.

You don't even *need* a half ton IMO.
Would you consider a Tacoma, Frontier, Colorado or similar? |

35k otd? 4x4? View Quote Yes and yes. It was 35 and some change. Bought it at stocker Chevrolet in state college pa. I was told by numerous dealerships that price was dealer cost but didn't matter to me. It was over $2k less than any other dealership. I'd take a pic of the slip and post if I could but this sight won't let me just post a pic easily. |

Go test drive a Tundra, Ram, F150, and Silverado and tell us what you liked best.

I have the '16 3.5 eco crew cab. Buy a '17 has a 10spd trans more torque and more HP.

I just bought nearly the same truck! It's 2012 4x4 Mega dually. My ninth... or tenth Cummins. Maybe I've got a dozen already. I tried to put a picture up, but I got the 200. |
|
I'd rather have bought yours... a lot less miles than the 2012 I bought.
What's that truck blue book for? Put it on Craigslist. Trade is sucks. |

Tundra. Everything's overbuilt, and value is held like a motherfucker.

I just ordered the new F150 with the upgraded ecoboost and 10 speed transmission today.
The raptor does 0-60 in less than 6 seconds, so mine should at least be fun |

View Quote well this is an interesting idea. every truck I have owned over the last 20 years has been a full size but you are right, I don't *need* the capacity of a full size. I know nothing about the smaller trucks and literally haven't looked no less reviewed any of them. suggestions if I go this route, please. |

I know nothing about the smaller trucks and literally haven't looked no less reviewed any of them. suggestions if I go this route, please. One buddy of mine has a Colorado. Another with a Toyota whatever the hell its called. This is my dumb theory on newer mini or small pickups, VS a year old F150... No easier to work on. Comparable parts are usually not cheaper. Don't get any better fuel mileage. More downsides... Can't tow two chickens in a wheelbarrow. Beds usually so small, near worthless. Interiors are very small. Don't re-sell as fast as a half ton. Some mini trucks don't hold value like a half ton, even when by the same manufacturer. Upsides... Don't take up much space in the garage. |

I can plead with you to avoid Chevy like the plague. I simply cannot wait for the remaining 6mos on my '15 Silverado lease to be up. What a POS this truck is. I knew I F'd up giving Gubment Motors another shot.

Say what??? Car and Driver test My comment was on the mileage. The article even states an average of 15, and you can be sure that wasn't at 80+. Still, 15 is pretty good, considering my old 1994 GMC got less with half the power. |
|
I am not much of a chevy fan but liked the look of the 2016 face lift and test drove a 1500 z71 LTZ plus with the 6.2l. They have crazy good deals (like 11k off) and I fell in love with it after driving it. The 6.2l has gobs of power and I get 20-21 mpg on the highway (70-75mph) and average 18-19 mixing in around town driving. I was disappointed in the ecoboost performance when I test drove it and my buddies 2015 ecoboost struggles to get 18mpg on the highway.
