i just watched "the horde", a french zombie flick. it was surprisingly good! four french cops go after a nigerian-czech gang who killed their partner and things go horribly awry. there's not much plot development and you never find out how the zombie virus happened just that the french ghetto version of cabrini-green is suddenly chock full of zombies! good production value.
another really good one is just out, "13 assassins", a japanese samurai flick. a vicious sadistic young lord is slated to join the shogun's council and he plans on restarting the war period. it's decided he has to be stopped but they can't do it overtly so they assign an aging samurai to figure out how to kill this lord before he can take his place. the samurai sets out to find a small group to carry out the mission. it's very reminiscent of seven samurai and very well acted with great production value.
