I'm building mine now.
Everyone should.
Got the idea, watching "The Patriot".

A life-sized Effigy of King George.

Burn it on the 4th!
Make it part of the fireworks display.

As a global citizen you should, instead of observing outdated sovereign concepts, celebrate joyous world harmony between all nation states and the exciting vision of Sustainable Development.

Good idea Murph.. how about burning an effigy of Tony Blair as well?

NYShooter if they showed up to enforce a fireworks ban with the new yorkers I'll be celebrating with, there'd REALLY be some fireworks. [:D]

It is an accepted international term as evidenced here:

Stimson Center Assists Major New United Nations Study on Peacekeeping

August 25, 2000

Washington, D.C.: On August 23rd, the United Nations released its Report of the Panel on UN Peace Operations, the result of an intense, four-month study of the shortcomings of UN peacekeeping and related field operations. The report follows in the new tradition of the hard-hitting assessments of UN performance in Rwanda and Bosnia- Herzegovina released late last year by the UN, analyzing the Organization's deficiencies in doctrine, recruitment and training. The new study responds to the calls of those earlier reports for significant reform and restructuring of the UN's approach to peace operations with specific recommendations to make this vital UN function more effective.

And in reference to Sustainable Development and Agenda 21:

The third session of the CSD requested the Day of the Workplace to continue with the new tradition of special "days" on Major Groups at the CSD meetings. The first in the series was the Day of the Local Authorities at CSD95.

Let's create a new tradition. Let's make every January first a holiday that belongs to everyone; a day we gather with family, friends or people of another culture to practice peace in our homes, neighborhoods and nations, and to share with one another, and with the hungry of the world, a unifying and peaceful Millennium Meal.

A Resolution In Support Of The Millennium Meal

Whereas there is a widespread longing for peace and unity among the members
of the human family,

Whereas January 1, 2000 has been decldared by the United Nations General
Assembly as One Day in Peace,

Whereas much of the conflict among peoples in the past has come from the
mistrust that is born of differiing customs and rituals,

Be it resolved that we begin a new custom that is universal, marking One Day
in Peace this year and every year all around the earthwith the age-old
unifying sacrament of the sharing of food.  Let's have a day that can be
celebrated by all of us.It will help to bring us together.
