I would like to install a government profile (read: surplus FN 1X7 A2) barrel on my rifle, however I need to trnasform it into a post-ban legal barrel.  I'm going to farm out the muzzle brake work to Wilson, but I want to remove the bayonet lug first - for obvious reasons.

Can I "neuter" the lug by removing the ears or do I have to reconfigure the front sight post to resemble what Colt, Bushmaster, Armalite etc. ship with their post-bans?

In other words, is a neutered lug legal or do I have to remove it completely?

ive seen posts here from folks i think are knowledgable stating that removing the ears from the lug is sufficient.
