I've been living with my GF for 2 years, and I've decided to give her a "commitment ring". I am not getting married again and she is OK with that. As a compromise on marriage, I am buying her an engagement ring and she is happy with that. She has made it clear I need to make this a special event when I give her the ring, so I am looking for some suggestions on how I can best make this special for her. Thanks in advance for any help.

Oh...pic of GF

If you are never getting married then just have a marriage ceremony without doing the paperwork you can both say vows and give her the ring and have a big party

Take her to the 100 yard range with a sufficiently scoped rifle.
Pin ring to target.
When she looks through the scope...

Nothing can possibly go wrong.

Honestly, you can do the vows and everything else, just have a pre-nup or a contract.

This way you can get the tax benefits too

Yup.  Take some string and tie to your junk, if she finds it, it was meant to be.

ETA:  If you tell her there's a surprise for her in your pants, that's cheating.

"commitment" ring?

Don't put it so tight around her neck that she's uncomfortable, but just tight enough that it won't slip off.

That requires lawyers for the pre-nup, and more lawyers and incompetent/corrupt family court in the event of a divorce. Fuck that shit. I've been through it before and I had a pre-nup. Never again!

We already live together like a man and wife. There is no difference aside from the IRS tax break and health insurance coverage.

My last one I did at the beach. Had my brother go ahead and put a bottle in the sand with a nice note.

Walked up on it and pointed to the bottle and said oh look at that.... I wonder what it says... Very romantic.

But she went crazy 5 years later and I had to kick her out of my house so there is that.

bs if you don't fill out and sign a license you are not married.

yeah there are some commonlaw marriage states where if you are living together x years you are married. IDFK I'm sure the lady would like it though don't have to deal with the legal shit and she gets a special day
Link Posted: 6/30/2015 4:10:51 PM EDT
"commitment ring"? what are you 12?

Marry her before someone else does.
Link Posted: 6/30/2015 4:11:07 PM EDT
Sit down to watch some tv, turn it to QVC and tell her "Baby, pick yourself out somethin'. Somethin' REAL nice."

Nothing says commitment like signing up for 5 payments of $29.95.

Throw it at her and say, "Take it! You win already."

Link Posted: 6/30/2015 4:15:05 PM EDT
put it real tight around her neck so she can only eat very tiny chunks of food at a time

then she gets her ring and she doesn't balloon up on you

everyone wins

YOU'RE WELCOME

Fuckin' get married already.  Jesus.

Good luck, OP!

What Is a Common Law Marriage in Texas?

A valid common law marriage in Texas is where a man and woman become husband and wife without getting a marriage license and having a marriage ceremony. Once established, a common law marriage has the same legal effect as a ceremonial marriage.

To have a common law marriage in the state, you must do three things:

(1) Agree to be married
(2) Live together as husband and wife, and
(3) Told others (hold yourselves out) that you are married.

Common law marriages in Texas have the same legal status as a ceremonial marriage. Why is this important? Because if the common law marriage doesn’t work out, you’ll have to get a formal divorce to end it.

Getting a divorce is the same as with other marriages, except the couple must first prove to the court that they were married. The person that first files papers with the court has to prove that there was a common law marriage.

She's good enough to make love to you, cook for you, listen to you, and likely clean up after you, but she isn't good enough to marry?  Essentially you have told her that she isn't worth the risk.

Y'all are deluding yourselves.  Shit or get off the pot.

I was with my first for 30 years.  Was never going to get remarried.  Stumbled upon the wifey I hae now.  I am her third.  One divorce after less than a year and widowed after about 25 years.

The primary reason for marriage is to honor the other person by saying you are all in.

In the next thread, Arfcom will insist that you eject.

You know her way better than we do brother.

"Special" means unique and is really a test by a woman of how well you 'know her" and care about her.  It has to be personal, it has to be well planned and have required preparation outside of what you would normally do for an event, and you have to be the happiest dude on earth throughout it 110% enthusiastic about all of it without coming across desperate or uncool.

Good luck.

I never said she wasn't good enough to marry. She's an angel and the best woman I've ever know. I've been married twice and have been through two divorces. I am not going through that again. There is no good reason in my mind to lock myself into state law and have myself controlled by idiot/incompetent/corrupt lawyers and judges if things go south.

Just a tip, if you ever put a knee down on that street burn the pants afterward.
