I use Google tool bar, Ad Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Spysweeper. All are up to date versions. But for the last week or so not one of them has been able to stop pop ups while i am using the internet with internet explorer. I get these pop ups about every other page I load at random.

What else can I try?

Go to tools> internet options>advanced
and uncheck the third party browser extension box.
Restart.
enjoy.

If you are not adverse to switching browsers, the another big +1 for Firefox.

If you want to keep IE (I assume that's what you're running), the try Pop-Up Stopper from http://www.panicware.com.

Pop ups are browser hijacks.
Unchecking the box may not clear the jack but it usually hides it.
Out of sight out of mind

1st: Get a copy of Knoppix It's free to download.

Be shure your AV program is currently up to date & scan the system! Check the settings & be shure it's set to the highest level for cleanup. Also be shure to remove all the junk from add/remove programs IE: Kazaa, Mysearch, Etc! I also use Hijack This for cleanup

MSCONFIG anything that isn't necessary in the startup!

After you have run Ad Aware, Spybot & cleaned the system with that, then Boot the system with the knoppix CD & clear all the temp files, temp internet, history files.

Next Backup critical data!

I then run regedit to edit the system registery! I searck for www. & when I find these keys I remove them!

If you are running 2000/XP you need to run these processes under each user profile & you will get multiple results found!

If in doubt Don't! Regedit can be a powerful tool or it can crash your system! ( Ive killed a few when rushing thru) I have benn doing this some time for my customers with about 90% success in cleaning up a system. It takes a few hours & is easy to miss things! When done Be shure to fully update critical microsoft updates !

If it continues to be a problem, Format & Reload your system,( It's the only way you can be shure) load a current AV program, then go & update everything for the AV & OS, then restore your backups! (you did back up b4 you started? )

Best of luck! I hope this is usefull to you!

Also Mozzella/Firefox is great! Better than IE for shure! you just need IE to download windows updates!

control panel > administrative tools> services > disable "messenger" & keep using google's pop-up blocker. Should stop most of them. & a +1 on firefox.
