How do I tell if this is legit or not?

Is there a fix?

Thanks.

I don't think there is much that will use 50% of your rigs resources if you're not actually running anything.

Gone through all the Malwarebytes and Spybot utilities?

Did you try deleting System32 yet?

Not cool if you run into someone that doesn't know your joking.

Good.  You really don't want me roaming around a modern computer deleting things.

Do you have alot of computer programs  / games / toolbars? Is the computer more than 4 years old ?

DLLhost (Dynanamic Library Link Host) is a program updater file normally that updates computer programs, Let the computer sit for 20 minutes after logging on then see if it's still a resource hog.

50%, 25% and so on mean a process is hogging a whole CPU in a 2, 4, etc... CPU system.

Process Explorer from SysInternals.com (now Microsoft) is a good tool to hunt this kind of stuff down.

Run full scans with Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials simultaneously, in safe mode (!), tonight when you go to bed.  Check the results tomorrow.

DLLHOST.EXE is the process that allows applications to run and access their individual dynamic link libraries.  If DLLHOST.EXE is exhibiting problems it is usually an offending application that is hammering the service, usually due to an error, or bug.

The problem is that it could be any program.  Link the link posted above said, one guy had a .WAV file in the startup folder of his computer, so the computer would play a sound every time he booted up.  Media Player was trying to consistently create a preview for the .WAV but was crashing over and over thereby hammering DLLHOST.EXE.

I would restart your computer in safe mode, and start up needed services and applications one at a time letting your computer sit 10-15min between each change.

Odd thing just happened.  I was doing a Malware scan in the normal mode, while I was researching this problem and doing a few other things.

I was also watching the task manager, as I had ended the dllhost application using it and was trying to see if it would start up as I opened and closed the normal websites I frequent.

Suddenly, a Realplayer app starts and starts eating 50% of my CPU.  I thought it was one of the websites I had open, which was running a slideshow.  I attempted to close the website.  It closed, but then CPU usage went to 100%.  Four or five iexplorer applications showed up on the taskmanager and the computer stayed locked up at 100% CPU usage for about 10-15 minutes.

I couldn't do anything.

I turned the computer off to get it back and here I am.

I'm noticing that dllhost shows up when I go to Photobucket.

Stop, listen. Update your Malwarebytes rules. Shut your computer down. Restart it. When you first see the Windows splash screen start tapping the F8 key.

You will shortly be presented with a menu. Choose "Start Windows in Safe Mode"

Log into Windows and run Malwarebytes full system scan. Don't do anything else. Walk away. Come back later and follow the prompts to remove the infected objects. Reboot, report back.
