I would like to get another bolt gun and I'm looking for suggestions. Currently I have a Savage 12BVSS in .25-06 and a Tikka 595 Sporter in .308. The Savage I got for blasting water bottles and general target practice, the Tikka for long range practice and because it is a piece of art. What I would like to get is something kind of like the Tikka in the sense that it is out of the ordinary, well crafted, functions well and looks great. Kinda like a B&O stereo. The other thing is that I would like to get something at either end of the caliber spectrum, i.e. a low recoil like a .17, .22, .223 or a boom stick like a .375, .416, .458. Other calibers are OK, just looking for something different. I'm thinking a bit bass ackwards in that I would let the gun choice dictate what kind of shooting I would do. Last but not least, I would like to keep the price around $1000. Any thoughts?

Well, I'm a Mauser fan so... how about a Mauser?

For the lower caliber rifle I would go with a base ruger 10/22 and get the barrel and stock swapped out and that will give you an accurate .22 for well under $1000.

Thanks, keep 'em coming. I've found a Carl Gustaf Mauser I like; the 10/22 would be a good idea also.

Everything I've read about Tikka has been positive.  They guarentee 1 moa at 100 yards, and with the right choice of ammo people are getting .5 groups and better in some of the articles I've read.

Well, I want a .204 Ruger No. 1 single-shot.

That's not something you see every day at the range, and meets your tiny-caliber requirement, too.

+1 for a gustaf mauser I have one in 6.5x55 and to me the caliber works for anything I do and the person that had it before me chopped it to 18" its quite a nice carbine.

What are the practical differences between the LE1 and the LE2? I'm also looking at a .308 in the LE2 flavor.
