If you are looking for a budget cam, the A119 is what I would get, along with a good 32gb card.

1440p, small and low profile, has an option for a GPS module if you want it.  And it's relatively affordable.

Had a less expensive dual cam model, it just broke. Lasted just over two years.

I am replacing it with a Blackvue two channel model. Not sure what exactly yet, something with wifi and gps. The wifi is great...able to connect with your phone and an app.....check camera position, check if that shopping cart dinged your bumper, etc. With my old model the bit rate was somewhat low, so you couldnt really get tags on film. so next model will be 1080 with high bitrate.

Blackvue is what all the other models are measured against. Buy once, cry once.

I'm just curious what state allows 14 year olds to drive?

I have two of these, and they work great. Has GPS, turns on and off automatically, etc.

Night time video is excellent as well. Small button on it to lock a video from being overwritten. Records in 1,3,5 minute chunks and rolls over unless the video is locked.

Thankfully haven't needed to use any video yet.

Amazon Product
  • Enhanced Night Quality with the New Sony Exmore Image Sensor. 20% larger than our previous flagship sensor to capture more light which improves clarity at night.
  • Captures 1080P Videos Under Tough Lighting Conditions - Advanced wide dynamic range processing ensures video is recorded vividly and clearly even under strongly contrasted lighting.
  • Sharp Image Quality. Low Noise. The f/1.6 aperture Japanese 6-Element glass lens ensures no details are lost. The large aperture increases light reaching the image sensor, improving clarity at night.

Don't do it. Technology is great until its used against you. Especially being inside a car driven by a teenager. Trust me, I work in insurance litigation.

Plus 1 on these.

It will take a 64gb card if you get their formatting tool and stick to 1 or 3 minute video lengths.  I especially like having the mute button available too.  So it stays mute for most driving and I can press it and the save recording button if something is going on.
