Well I have a chance to pick up one of these up. They are described as: Sig 228 stock with two Hi-cap mags approx 150 rnds, The other is a Sig 229 with Sig nite sights, 3 high-cap mags tuned up by a local gunsmith and approx 500 rnds thru it.
I have not shot them but have seen them they are well taken care of. The guy selling them is moving. What do you think they are worth. He is asking $500 for the 228 and $700 for the 229. He was told to sell them with 10 rnds and sell the Hi-caps separately? Is this a agood price? and what do you think they are worth?

Thanks for the help

I recently saw a bare bones 229 for mid-600's.

I'd say that is a GREAT price, with nite sites and 3 hi-caps.

Good prices.  I have a less used P229 factory nickel'd with three Hi-caps, and I wouldn't let them go for less than $900.00 as a package.

New P228's with NS can be had for around $500.00, so a decent price for one with hi-caps.

P229 hi-caps are going for $85.00 - $100.00 around here, and P228's slightly less than that.  So figure from there.

YMMV [8D]

The 229 you're comparing is also a 9mm correct?  Which gun feels better to you?  If the 228 felt better I might would choose it because a set of NS would be approx. $70 +/- and same goes for a 228 hi-cap.

My 229 came in 357 sig. I later bought a 40 s&w barrel for it.

good price for that 229...I would snagg it up.  229 has been my carry gun for over 2 years now and love it.
my .1/2 cents

You would be crazy not to pick up the 229.  I repeat crazy.  The hi-caps are worth about $250.  If you didn't want them you could sell them and have a 229 for $450.  That is a good deal.  If it was me I would even make an offer of say $650......You never know.

Gotta luv them thar SIG's!!! [:D]

P229 12rd factory mags in .357SIG or .40S&W
should start at about $80 each.

No clue how much 9mm mags for P229 would be.

I'm not a Sig guy so the below may be incorrect -

I'm not sure there are 9mm 229 pre-ban hi-caps?  I think the 229 was originally chambered in .40 & .357 Sig at the time of the ban.  After the ban Sig dropped the 228 and just started building a 9mm variant of the 229. The 229 can use 228 9mm hi-caps though.

My P228 is my favorite!  If you ever read that I no longer have it, then you know I must be dead.  It is reliable as hell and very accurate.  Last week I clover-leafed 3 shots at 30 feet and I'm not a great shooter.

A P228 with 150 rounds through it is not even broken in yet.  Only $500?  Buy it!  The hi-caps (if factory) are worth about $80 each.  Another nice thing is it will take the cheaper (about $60) P226 15 rounders.  I carry mine with a 13 rounder (loaded with 12 and one in the chamber) and a P226 one in my mag holder.

I don't have a P229 but they are equally as good.

"Sig... there is no substitute!"

SOL

The 229 is probably the better buy.  Can be barrelled for 357 Sig and has a machined slide while the 228 is stamped metal.
