I am old enough to remember life before nafta/cafta etc. And it was a hole lot better than it was today.  Is it a option to repeal it?  Or is it here to stay?

My opinion:  It is the single largest cause of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA struggle to keep jobs.  It walks the line of economic treason.

True.........I love to debate.  And arguing it is the cause would be fun.......some  other time.

The question I want to focus on is...........Could it be repealed today?  Or did that ship sale a long time ago?

If there aren't somewhat equal standards for worker safety, benefits and pay then no. Unless you think it's OK for children to make your stuff or for workers to have no recourse against abusive practices.

How is it that "monkey pushes the button in the USA" is worth so much more than "monkey pushes the button not in the USA and ship it in"?

Seriously, I want to be a monkey.

I would like to work 8 hours a day. Five days a week.  Overtime occasionally.  And work for the same company my whole career.  When I retire I would like a good pension/insurance.

oh wait.......it is 2010

NAFTA made it possible for a lot of American businesses to establish beachheads in Mexico (and I would presume Canada as well). Take a drive around any major Mexican city, and you'll see Wal-Marts, Sams Clubs, McDonalds, HEB Groceries, etc. None of that existed before NAFTA.

It also greatly increased the amount of American goods imported into Mexico. Visit the produce section of any Mexican grocer, and you're likely to find apples from Washington, potatoes from Idaho, and citrus from the Texas Rio Grande valley. Before NAFTA, Mexicans bought Mexican-made products from Mexican manufacturers and growers.
