I have no problem with cyclists on the road as long as they obey traffic laws. Many do not.

First night in Mid-Town, December '94, I stood on a corner during rush hour.
Cyclists, roller bladers cutting through traffic in total anarchy. Watched a cab make a legal right turn on green, have to stop because of traffic, cutting off a cyclist running up from the right. Guy jumped off his bike, screamed "fucker!", kicked in the rear fender of the cab, then took off through the now red light. In the week we were there, saw stuff like that all the time. Officer Vincek might even be a slacker.

I saw FAR more lawbreaking in my time in NYC by bicyclists than all the cabbies or patch-wearing bikers combined.
They don't have a plate on their ass, they KNOW it, and yell at YOU the pedestrian when you are on the sidewalk to get out of "their" way! |
