Ok, so I have an aquaintance come over to help pick up my ceiling (uhh, it fell in from getting wet, still got roof over head. )..

He makes a couple comments about the guns and ammo about here and there and I just kinda move past it tryin to get the house back to something relative to "normal".

Then, he went and asked straight out "What do you need all of these guns for????"

My God.   Where do I start.    I kicked it off with "they are fun".  Response:  "you like killing people?"

So I tried to explain that I have the guns because I have the right to, and chix dig them.  He pointed out that most chix are afraid of guns, just like him.   I guess I have to give him a point there, but I tried.

Then he saw my NRA Hat and stickers, and he said, solemnly/straightfaced that "9/11 wasn't terrorists, it was the NRA trying to get everybody to have guns"

I kinda had to grab a beer or 27 at that point, because that is the absolute most insane concocted idea I have EVER heard!  (Yes, EVEN ON ARF!)

What is worse is that I am in like South Dakota, where everybody has a gun, and this guy is a bouncer at a bar.  He has been over many times, he has never actually shot guns, but he didn't know what all I had until they were stacked up in the living room due to the problem.  (Well, and Chameleon being temporarily homeless, but that is a different story...)  Suddenly, I am the equivalent to a jihadist in his mind.  

So after I finished my beer(s) and could thus lower my IQ to converse with such logic, I tried to ask about how the fuck he came to this "conclusion".  Answer:  Bush did it.  Uhhh...   He went on to detail how we supported Afghanistan and Iran and hated Iran,  and now are completely switched on "sides".  I told him those were different years, and a thing called the "Cold War" between us and the USSR was over.  (You kids prolly don't know that we actually DID have "nuke drills" in gradeschool....)  He discounted all of that and said the war is about OIL.

I wouldn't bother posting, but this is as insane if not more insane than most of the drivel on d u!   I think I know the bastard that is gonna vote for Dashle this time.... again.  

Anybody else here had wind of this "story" with the NRA????

I have known this guy for like over 2 years, and never talked politics or anything else, not a "friend", just a guy I know that can carry a bunch of heavy crap (needed for ceiling).   When he actually started talking about what he thought, I felt like I was having a conversation with Michael Moore or something worse.

His "opinions" are entirely given to him from the media, as all of his statements were nothing of "local nature".  Maybe that is why most all my "Friends" are random states and I know them by their posting name or avatar.

Sidenote:  He is also a manager at a Coca Cola outlet, is married to a knockout financial advisor, and has 2 kids, and a nice house with 3 cars and  a Harely.    Basically the kind of person who isn't a fool, and you would just assume is republican...

I still have no clue where/how he got the whole "NRA Did It" thing in his mind.  NRA is a kind of "well known" thing in SD, but in a Good Way...  I was wondering if it was mentioned by Mr. Moore's excellent documentaries or something (I aint gonna look to find out, I felt ill enough after the conversation)

Taking a rifle from my safe will not prevent some doped up gang banger from doing yet another drive by shooting over drug territory using a gun bought illegally. There are some pretty clear laws prohibiting murder yet it continues so why continue to pass more gun laws attempting to prevent murder? The number one weapon of choice (by a wide margin) continues to be hands and feet (FBI crime statistics) yet the media?s major focus is on so called ?assault weapons?, which according to the FBI facts are used in less than one percent of killings.

Quite clearly the Founding Fathers were most strongly for law abiding citizens owning military firearms. To quote James Madison ?The Constitution preserved the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation .... (where) the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms?.

Words mean something and despite the best efforts of some to change their meanings or to completely ignore them in some cases the Constitution is still the supreme law of the land. The loss of a single child is a tragic - the loss of the freedom to suppress a tyrannical government is a tragedy on a much larger scale.
