I learned over a year ago that the NRA helps anyone that helps them! I do not have anything for the NRA!
|
|
The NRA has a "support the incumbent" policy. So if you are running for office, it doesn't matter how big of a 2nd Amendment supporter you are, if your opponent has been at least luke-warm on the subject, the NRA will send out a jillion of those orange cards supporting your opponent.

Why are you surprised? The NRA is a single-issue lobbying group. If a candidate has a strong history of 2nd Amendment support, the NRA will back them regardless of party.

Its not the National Republican Association. Or the National Tea Party Association. Its the National RifleAssociation. If an incumbent Democrat supports the Second Amendment the NRA will support them. Why is this so hard to understand? The NRA doesn't care about the budget, abortion, unions, gay marriage, urban renewal, the community reinvestment act, condoms for Cambodians, none of it. Nor should they.

The NRA rated Rick Larsen (D-Washington) a B-.
The good Voted YES on prohibiting product misuse lawsuits on gun manufacturers. Voted YES on prohibiting suing gunmakers & sellers for gun misuse. Voted YES on national cross-state standard for concealed carry. The bad Voted YES to prevent unauthorized firearm use with "smart gun" technology. He's more pro gun than some of the "republicans" in Washington State. |

The NRA will cut off it's nose to spite their face. They claim to be a single issue organization? Well in my book the Democrat party is anti 2nd amendment no matter what some politicians in their party claim.

Not because a bunch of Republicans sent him a strongly worded letter, but because 22 Democrat Congressmen did. |

Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Not exactly true. If you are dumb enough not to send in your answers to the questionnaire they send out and have no voting record. (because you are just trying to get in) and the incumbent has a pro gun voting record yes the NRA will support the person who has the pro gun voting record over the one with no voting record. And it really is not just a blanket "The NRA". There is (or should be an "NRA Members Council" in your city or County. If you do not have one you can start one and be the founding member. You can invite your pro gun friends to join. Then YOU and your NRA Members Council will have a lot of say in who the NRA endorses in your area. If you have a pro gun candidate you can make sure he or she gets a questionnaire and returns it. You can make recommendations on who should be endorsed. So bottom line if there is no Members Council in your area or there is and you are not part of it quit your NRA bashing bitchin. |

Many leftist Deomocrats would ban guns in a heart beat. But many more centrist Democrats have been convinced, or at the least, convinced that the issue is a loser for them. My neighbor is a Democrat (albeit a fairly conservative one) and he just bought his first AR, after oogling mine for a few years. :) |

If the NRA was strictly one party they wouldn't be an effective lobbyist group in a two party system now would they?

Both obama and Rick Larsen as well as other democrats endorsed by the NRA supported the very anti 2nd amendment Supreme Ct nominee Elena Kagan. To refuse to see the impact that the Supreme Ct has on the 2nd A is just stupidity. IMO |

In a system, city, and country filled with vipers, liars, thieves, and hypocrites I find it refreshing that the NRA takes a principled stand for a single issue.
If you want NFA and BATFE to go away you'll just have to vote democrat and sign up for all the programs you can, cause they ain't going away until the .gov goes into a tailspin and has to cut spending everywhere to fight off fires and riots. |

I have a Democrat state house representative
He not only voted FOR the concealed carry law but was a co-sponsor and this is in ILLINOIS He bucks the democrat line on fiscal issues too. I realize that's state and not federal, but still...not all D's are totally bad NRA is a single issue organization though |

You would be sending the message to Democrats that they will not get NRA support, no matter how pro gun they are... Thereby taking away any incentive for any democrat to be pro-gun. Their job is to sway antigunners to the pro-gun side. |

And that's the way it shoudl be.
If the NRA becomes a tool of the Republican party, then Dems who might support them will have no reason to vote with them. Also, it is good to have supporters in both parties. If the Republicans took the NRA endorsement for granted, they will peel off on lots of gun issues to move to the "reasonable" gun control center for their own re-election, knowing that the NRA has nowhere else to go. Not unlike the situation for African Americans and the Democrat party. The Dems don't have to do much for them, and don't. |

Lied to about what, exactly? No, the NRA should not support people from ANY party who endorse SCOTUS nominees like Kagan. Those who did support her should certainly lose the NRA's support. But, to throw away the pro-gun votes of other Democrats based on non-gun related politics like abortion, gay rights, entitlements, etc... would render the NRA a completely irrelevent lobbying organization. Believe me...I despise most Democrat politicians... But the NRA can not afford to have that attitude. The harsh reality of the real world is that not all Republicans are pro-gun, and not all Democrats are Anti... |

Around here a lot of our Democrats are more conservative that the Republicans. I have voted for our state rep in the last three elections who happens to be a (D). He has also voted against every anti gun bill and in favor of every pro gun bill since he has been in office. The last Republican who ran against him supported an assault weapons ban and ban on high cap magazines. Funny thing though is according to many here I'm a traitor for not pulling the Republican line (Just mention how you will not vote for pro AWB Romney in the general to see what I mean). I have always voted Democrat for county sheriff as well. Not that I feel party affiliation bears much importance in that position but he has always done a dam fine job and the only (R) that ever runs against him is a known dirt bag.
Voting straight down the party line is a moronic pursuit of the brain dead. |
