Some of this you may have already heard, some of it you may not have heard yet. All of it is in my opinion the most important information for this board. All of this information comes from material that I recieved in the mail today from the NRA.

As you probably already know (since there was another thread about it), Wayne LaPierre will be debating Rebecca Peters (the head of IANSA, UN's top gun grabber) on the issue of gun control in the United States. The event will be on InDemand, and there will be an online vote afterwards, with the results being sent to the US Senate.

As you may not already know, (and as I was COMPLETELY surprised to learn) the intent is to influence a vote in the US Senate on the ratification of a United Nations treaty that ban private firearms ownership. According to the information that I recieved from the NRA, if ratified this treat would go into effect in July of 2006!

As you probably are also already aware, SCOTUS (Supreme Court of the United States) has already ruled that international treaty is supreme and takes precedence even over the US Constitution! The United Nations could concieveably erase the second amendment without even a vote by the full congress (only the Senate is tasked with ratifying international treaties)!

Here are my questions:

- Has anyone else seen this information from the NRA?

- Does anyone have any specific, detailed information on the proposed UN treaty that they are referring to?

- Could the sky actually be falling this time?

ETA - Here is a quote from the letter they sent me (you will probably be seeing one soon as well):

"The fact is, as you read this letter, more than 500 organizations around the world -- with help from the U.N. and American politicians -- are working night and day to ban your guns.

And they plan to achieve the first critical step toward that goal through an international treaty outlawing firearms to be enacted by the United Nations in July of 2006.

This U.N. Treaty -- the first step on the gun-ban agenda before gun confiscation -- is a time-bomb relentlessly ticking underneath you Second Amendment rights if America elects a President willing to sign the treaty and a Senate willing to ratify it."

The NRA will always use scare tactics, though not completely unwarranted, to help generate more funding from its members.

UN resolutions have no legal effect.

They can't do jack.

But the NRA is a "NGO" at the UN.

The chance of THAT happening is somewhere between zero and "ain't gonna happen".  But if it should, then bring it on, I'll turn my weapons in... Bullets first.

It would be the quickest way to restore the Constitution.

You know, the older I get the more I feel like this.  I'm *SO* Goddamned sick and tired of watching the left nibble away at this nation.  I know in my gut that any sort of "shooting war" is going to be bloody and ugly in the extreme but I can't help but think that it's a walk in the park compared to the suffering that will happen if the socialists win.

The UN don't even have the balls to deal with scumbag dictators in shitty little third world countries who seek to develop WMD's. So the thought of them taking away my right to own a gun just doesn't scare me. Fuck the UN. Ill do like Iran did and tell them to go fuck themselves.

My Brother in law is a laywer, and I have had this discussion with him. The Constitution is subordinate to NOTHING. No treaty will ever take priority over the constitution and the 2nd amendment, unless the constitution is amended to get rid of the 2nd. The chances of this ever happening are slim to none. Look how hard a time they had trying to renew the assault weapons ban, and look what happened in 1994 when they enacted it.

This is why it is important to vote people into office who support the 2nd.

So calm down. Nothing like that is going to happen as long as we stay vigilant.

For a general introduction, see rwyouth.com/article.php?article=134 Deride the source as you will. Just pull the cases. It is beyond silliness to suggest that a Constitutional provision approved by majorities in the House, Senate and 3/4 of the state legislatures can be undone by the President and 51 senators.

With the "right combination"...read that "wrong"...of politicians in DC this would be approved with zero problems...Kerry, Cliton and Co. included.

The UN would love to try and disarm us...Hell, they ARE a collection of "scumbag dictators in shitty litte third world countries" by and large! Socialism is the new world order and most nations in the world today embrace it in some form or other...GB included (sorry Andy, but it's true!) Those who do not, embrace dictatorships of one sort or the other. We are all that is left...ALL.

As so exquisitely put by others here before me...

Hmmm... I just got my this month's First Freedom (the monthly NRA public policy journal) and I didn't not see a mention of that in there... although there was a great article about Kerry, the UN, and Soro's unifed front to disarm us (which we all know)...there was nothing alarmist in there.

The AWB was the last gun ban. Never again. As long we keep driving more CCW states and gun ownership increases, we will keep our rights.

Let the UN come.

You don't boil a frog that way!

You can't just throw it into boiling water, the frog will immediately jump out of the kettle.
Nope, you first put the frog into a kettle of cool water, then you slowly start to turn up the heat until finally you have him at a full rolling boil. Sort of like starting with a NFA Act, then move on to an AWB, etc.
