anyone think it'd be possible to sue handgun control incorporated for slander?

I think the most relevant thing is the fact that they're describing gun owners as redneck, racist psychopaths. listen to that song. it's enough. Anyone here think a lawsuit would work against them for insulting people like that? Cause not all gun owners are racist pigs. hardly any of them are and that site can be considered slander.

Screw it! Sue 'em anyway. The money it will cost them to defend will be worth it!
Link Posted: 11/17/2003 1:45:13 PM EDT
see I think someone should put together a little fundraiser to give to some lawyers to get them to sue HCI
Link Posted: 11/17/2003 1:59:23 PM EDT
Perhaps a class action suit?

It might put a dent in HCI.

I think that's an awesome idea. Force them to spend all their money and resources defending against endless lawsuits instead of campaigning for the reauthorization of the AWB.
Link Posted: 11/17/2003 2:33:39 PM EDT
Excellent idea, but I don't know where the money would come from.
Link Posted: 11/17/2003 3:14:37 PM EDT
well.........

bake sales? LOL

no well that is a possibility, but also maybe get arfcom and pre-ban.com to help. or get some people to donate money. minimum ten dollar donation. put it up on arfcom's front page announcing a class action lawsuit. Like get every visitor to donate a dollar or whatnot. Go from there.

Fuckin A! Im in. Where to send check? Party time!
Link Posted: 11/17/2003 3:24:32 PM EDT
see I think it'd be an excellent idea for arfcom as a whole. get some people to organize it and run it. I'm giving out the idea instead of doing it because I'll confess im not good at doing these things. in fact i've never. I'd love to be a part of it but I don't think I could lead it.

Any legal eagles here? This could turn out
to br a great idea. Imagine all the resources
this could eat up not to mention the ulcers.
This could be a wonderful thing!
Link Posted: 11/17/2003 5:52:16 PM EDT
I sureas hell hope that HCI loses all their funding ten times over from this.
Link Posted: 11/17/2003 5:55:38 PM EDT
That site was hilarious! Stop the NRA from putting John Lee Malvo back on the streets everyone!
Did you guys see the pictures of the evil looking assault rifles that the NRA wants to put "back" on the street? Boy they looked evil, I'm sure glad they are illegal now. They can put 12 lugs in a cops body in two seconds.
Just think of the rights of the gangbangers families. They get he doors of justice "slammed" on their faces!
The NRA is killing everyone! Run for your lives!!

You mean jam them up with lawsuits like they are trying to do to gun manufacturers??

Sounds like a grand idea.

Where do I send my donation???
Link Posted: 11/17/2003 5:57:28 PM EDT
Count me in for 10!
Link Posted: 11/17/2003 7:10:38 PM EDT
why hasnt this been done before?

i'd send my money in to see it done.

if they had a dozen lawsuits, that would set them back pretty far.
Link Posted: 11/17/2003 7:30:41 PM EDT
I'll donate for this cause!
Link Posted: 11/17/2003 7:39:55 PM EDT
well someone needs to start off by finding a law firm that'd be willing to do this.... cause i Sure don't know any/.
Link Posted: 11/17/2003 9:04:43 PM EDT

Here's my $50 bucks. God, this would be
great to watch them squirm. I hope this happens.

Link Posted: 11/17/2003 9:29:18 PM EDT
I'm game.
Link Posted: 11/18/2003 3:24:22 AM EDT
I would be in for $10
Link Posted: 11/18/2003 3:37:02 AM EDT
I got an Andy J to toss in, but we're gonna have to raise a lot more. Remember the good ol' days of fund raising with the "Psycho Bash"? You got a junk car and sold sledgehammer swings for like $2 each. We could do the same with a few junk cars and sell a mag of ammo to blast away at it. Fun and fund raising, all at once.

I'm a poor college student, but I'm sure I could find some cash to donate to a very worthy cause.
Link Posted: 11/18/2003 2:04:21 PM EDT
Hell yea, I am in for at least $100 if we can get it started. If you guys are serious about trying it I will spread the word to the other boards I visit and notify some other "like minded" people.
Link Posted: 11/18/2003 2:42:00 PM EDT
sounds like a plan!

I can scrape up a few dollars for such a worthy cause.

we're going to have to raise a lot of cash, retainers on this level won't be cheap!!

ok guess I should talk to a law firm then. find out what the scoop is. didnt realize there'd be this much support.

ADDENDUM: well hold on...... lets see how many people truly want to do this. I'll set up a poll when I get home from work and we'll see how many are willing to donate.

Get it going. I'm in.

Turn about is fair play. I'm in. Just tell me where to send the money.

Just thinking about the implications of a class action law suit on HCI gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

Fuck'em, lets kick their asses.

Link Posted: 11/18/2003 5:48:00 PM EDT
get it going, and Iam in for $20 or so
Link Posted: 11/18/2003 6:04:50 PM EDT
Here's an idea, the anti-gun groups have been slandering the gun manufacturers and dealers for years too so maybe we could get some of them to join the suit and provide some funding. I'm sure they would love to give those idiots a dose of thier own medicine.
Link Posted: 11/18/2003 6:09:24 PM EDT
You can't sue them for slander...

The 1st Ammendment has been held to severely restrict 'slander' and 'libel' charges against corporations and public figures.

Trademark infringement may be possible, if the site uses any NRA marks without authorization, but 'fair use' may be a defense to that...

Nice try, guys...

Although WIPO has been notoriously yank-happy wrt taking away domains from 'infringing' or 'sucks' sites... Maybe a domain dispute to get them knocked offline...
Link Posted: 11/18/2003 6:28:47 PM EDT
COUNT ME IN FOR $20. LET'S GET THIS THING STARTED!

Dave, on their website, they are calling gun owners rednecks, racists, etc, etc. That is grounds for a class action suit by a group of citizens.
Link Posted: 11/18/2003 6:52:53 PM EDT
or, maybe there are better ways to spend this money? bringing new people into the shooting sports? $$$ to lobbying groups? more?
Link Posted: 11/18/2003 7:16:57 PM EDT
I get the NRABLACKLIST.COM newsletters e-mailed to me once a week, They"re very ammusing.
They say they have 80,000 names on the list, not real impressive in a country of 360,000,000.
