We will take the cold army meals but we draw the line at used clothes
I thought beggers can't be choosers Hell i buy clothes at the goodwill every day something comes along that makes me think fuck um perhaps they want tags on thm so they can return them and get cash Non-perishable food items, diapers, formula, kids toys, personal toiletries and new clothing, with tags attached, will be collected through Sunday, September 11. link |
I know I need to bite my tongue, but why does all this make me think that by helping so much this time, we're only encouraging the same behavior next time?
I say bullshit! Fuck them and their "New Clothes" shit! I thought about donating some clothes I have, and the majority in perfect condition mind you, but fuck 'em.
Please don't piss me off more than I already am.
I'm so sick of this cry baby shit. |
I buy at the used clothes shops. Where else can you get a $100.00 jacket for 10 or 15 bucks? I have a kid going to college in a few years and I save where I can. If it's good enough for me then exactly why is it not OK for someone else? Especially for someone with nothing?
Next thing you know they'll want us to donate 2006 Mercedes to replace their pos cars. No fucking way.
You forgot they did not have cars. That's why they did not evacuate. |
Talk about a bunch of ungrateful fuckers. One asshole came off the plane here in Phoenix from NO, and the first thing he said was "I'm glad to be somewhere else, but it's hot" |
I've said many times, I'll never donate to charity again. Fuck'm. I'm tired of it. I'm takin care of me and mine. They damn well better work on takin care of them and theirs, cause I sure as shit wont.
Did they have new clothing? They'll get plenty of compensations for their troubles, admittedly some things can't be made better by money. I have to work my ass off for my $, when money is tight I have to borrow from my credit card to pay bills, but I don't think or believe it's someone's duty to help me, nor will I be DEMANDING anyone to give me free stuff, or clothes with tags on. Some of these people don't seem worthy of the help at any rate. I volunteered at a homeless food distribution for years, my impression back then still bears witness to the behavior of the refugees who don't want to be thus labeled. About half of them was grateful, polite and kind, the other 50% was rude, ungrateful and bitching about something they had done nothing to earn. |

When they got off the plane here at Dobbins ARB, they were escorted into hangars to get food and necessities. It was 0100 and most of the food was gone from the day, they started bitching about the lack of meat. We had muffins, dry goods, snack stuff for them until we could get them on buses to shelters. Then, once on the buses, we had them stage 3 buses before the mini convoy with state trooper escorts would leave. Once, with two buses waiting for a half hour for a third, they started getting violent pitching a major bitch because they didnt wanna wait. My sympathy is exhausted for these people.

I was gunna donate 1k each to the Red Cross and the Salvation Army but now I'm going to save it for the defense fund for the first property owner that's arrested for killing a looter.... FUCK'em...
They don't have the staff nor facilities to wash the used clothing.
That's what I heard on the radio tonight. |
Ok, then ask nicely that the used clothing be cleaned prior to donation. While we're at it, let's donate $1M to have Wolfgang Puck go there and cook for everyone.
And, the middle class will get blamed for lack of donations and charitible contributions for this disaster because we are racists.
Hope I won't get in trouble for saying it, but if one wasn't racist before, he/she may very well be, right about now after seeing and hearing how they behave,
What a shame, I had a bag of clothes previously worn by homeless vagrants that I can't donate now.
Folks...
This is only the policy of this "Convoy of Hope" (organized by Hope for the Cities.org). NOTHING in that story says that it is the policy of the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, or any other charity organization. Did you even READ the article? Edit: We donated to the Salvation Army, and my folks (in Houston) DROVE down to the George R. Brown Convention center and donated bags and bags of clothes that they didn't need anymore. Everything was in decent shape, and they GLADLY accepted it down there. Don't let ONE organizations ass-backward policy prevent you from donating to a charity. Lots of folks (lots of GOOD folks) lost a ton of shit, if not everything in this storm. |
Well, the Salvation Army here locally on the news said they don't want any used clothes, ONLY NEW CLOTHES. This was a SA spokesman and I think the Red Cross were there as well on site. |
The local bums now have signs that read "Help a New Orleans survivor"

This is why I said I didn't think they'd be staying long in Arizona. They might stay over the winter, but once next summer rolls around they'll think that they see this guy every afternoon: |

I'd put on someones stuffed in a closet old cothes so long as I could get out filth sewage clothing. |
I had a used couch that i tried to give away.. Nice shape, perfectly clean.. And a SLEEPER with new sheets.. Nobody would take it.. Had a 27" TV to give away when I bought a new one.. Just haul it off and its yours.. I had people email me wanting pictures, asking if it had scratches on it.. JEEBUS!!!! You cant even give less than new shit away!
Just wait- soon it will be 'Iraq war vet who survived New Orleans'. |
Amen! |
+1. Thanks for saving me the typing. |

Don't freak out just yet. I think they do this to discourage the donation of used socks and underwear. That really isn't the sort of thing one wants to stockpile and distribute. It presents a potential disease risk. They'd have to launder everything if they accepted used undegarments. And who wants to wear used underwear, even if it has been washed? I'd rather go commando.

Try to donate to the people in MS.
You don't here them complaining, yet they are still living in their tore up homes, or building a shelter from what's left. They are a strong bunch who will appreciate whatever comes their way. |
Hell lets take then to a Class III shoot with the 90mm and a 5 gallon bucket of Tannerite. Throw in random bottles of Tannerite popping off every 30 sec or so. they will be running out of the state! I wonder what they will say when they see the thousands of people streaming into the SAR show. You can bet Bob's 90 will be there if it hadn't sold... |
This is why the only charity I EVER donate to is the Humane Society
Ummmmm ........ WITH UTMOST RESPECT TO YOU GUYS (my being from out of town and putting in my .02 cents) .... take it easy.
The article made no reference as to who made "WITH TAGS ATTACHED" a requirement. For all we know, it may just be a "REQUEST" by KARE11 (for whatever reason) OR may just be a misquoted report. What is clear however, is that NOWHERE in the article did it state that it was the recepients / victims who WANTED or REQUIRED that the tags be attached. I share your surprise and even dumbfoundedness on the supposed requirement ... i mean, WTF? They can't be serious!?! But until that statement is clarified, it would be unfair to those people whom we are pilloring and imputing supposed uttered statements to. |
I am absoulutely sure you can find multiple local laundry mats and dry cleaner tha would clean everything for fre I mean the good will does it with everthing they get
its just starting to annoy me I worked at a pawn shop and the state prison I have zero sympathy anymore for the "poor" |
They need the tags attached so they can return them to the stores for cash to buy crack!
I have arrested a woman in the city where I work several times. A year ago her childrens grandparents, (ex husbands parents) bought the kids some school clothes a week before school started. She took them back to the store and got cash to buy Methamphetamine. When the grandparents found out 2 days later, they bought more new school clothes, washed them and delivered them to the grandkids. Some people are just fucked up beyond belief! |

GUYS...
This care drive is being run by a MINNESOTA TV station... It is their decision to want new clothing only. Concerns about cleanliness are warranted, since they're probably going to be shipped in the same truck as foods. Instead of bitching about what they're willing to accept to take down there, be happy they're doing something at all. |
I hope this isn't true. Since I quit working construction and went back to school I went up a size in clothes. I have been saving all of my clothes hoping I would lose some weight but today I packed them all up to donate. 90% are in great shape, some would qualify more as work clothes (They have to work... right?). If they don't want them they the bundle will just go in the box at the Salvation Army. And I won't be going down to buy brand new clothes to donate. The fuckers can go naked for all I care.
If you donate any clothes for women, make sure some of them are size XXXL.
I pointed this out on page 1. I don't think anyone actually gives a damn though... |
Before I posted my harsh response I did go to the link and read it. It's true the refugees/survivors/hurricane victims did not appear to have made the statement about clothes with tags (say, how about used clothes with tags sewn on?), their actions in and out of NO demonstrated they believe we owe them something, and if they don't get it just how they want it and whey get want it, they'll bitch and moan as is their custom.
Under even normal circumstances we have unreasonable wait times for many things, we most likely do not live in our dream home, and the food we eat isn't what we fancy. Most folks are coherent enough to know that's how life is. Given the difficult situations, seems to me some of these people are so used to getting handouts and complaining about things they did not earn, it doesn't matter if the good will came from the government or strangers 3000 miles away. |

Bullshiite! No one gives dirty clothes to Goodwill or the Salvation Army! Eric The(FedUp)Hun |
Bullshiite, again. Is the 'food' already cooked and on plates? Or is the food all neatly packaged, just the way it would be at the grocery store's loading dock? See? We can all be easily fooled! Eric The(SometimesCynicismIsTheRightOutlook)Hun |

I'm not running out to buy new clothes off the rack. Just not something I'm going to do. I'll donate cash fine. I think it's a mistake to try to get people to donate brand new clothes. Package 'em up if cleaning is your concern and keep 'em seperate from food and other goods. Ask people to wash them before they bring them and don't accept or disburse used undergarments. |

the local shelter here in birmingham is refusing clothing all together.
