A bill that would allow fracking in the state of North Carolina was vetoed by Democratic Governor Perdue and was sent back to the State House for the veto override vote. The bill's proponents were a vote short.
Then this happened. In Carney's case, she was the 72nd person to vote for the override, the exact number needed to do so.
WRAL notes: Just after the vote, Carney's voice could be heard on her microphone, saying, "Oh, my gosh. I pushed green." Because of Carney's blunder, a fracking bill that Gov. Beverly Perdue had vetoed is now law. http://news.yahoo.com/n-c-lawmaker-fracks-her-vote-152255133––abc-news-politics.html Simple colour coded voting interfaces are hard. |

I'm both pleased at the outcome and saddened at the same time. I'm so conflicted...

Fracking is a leading cause of the natural gas glut crippling the nation.
Just what is fracking & why is it bad or good? |

Well if you get close enough. Does NC actually have any frackable resources? Natural gas you say. Did not know there was much natural gas exploration/production in NC. fisherman |

This post reminds me of everyone who was saying that Kagan/Sotomayor had no doubt already leaked the bad news to Obama about the healthcare law being defeated (before the decision was announced obviously). They were sooooo sure.

Been there during winter yet? Pros Cons fisherman I'm stationed in Grand Forks as part of the UAV program, so far I really like ND. I was stationed in California for a year and a half after training and volunteered to GTFO and get up to ND. I was part of the start up crew for the new UAV squadron up here. I haven't gotten to exploring the rest of ND i stay pretty localized to the Grand Forks-Fargo area. As far as the land its very flat...and windy...and cold. I really do want to get out to the western part and go see the badlands and such after I return from overseas. I absolutely love the people up here. They are so much more friendly and polite than pretty much anywhere nowadays. I still crack up when i hear the really exaggerated North Dakota accent. As far as weather I survived my first winter. Although when I talked to locals they called it mild (anyone who thinks -36 degrees fahrenheit mild has lost their sense of temperature). I've been up here for a year and a half now and in general I'm really happy with my choice to volunteer to move. I really like the area, the people, and best of all...NORTH DAKOTA HAS AWESOME GUN LAWS. |

This is good for NC and Its people.
I work in the environmental field .....so this is good for me too. |

The Dakotas look like interesting places. If I could determine I could survive that winter weather I think one or the other would be on my short list of retirement states. SD has low unemployment and low taxes from what I understand. I know someone from SD and the stories I hear about pheasant hunting there sound fantastic. Here's wishing you the best of luck when you go overseas. Go and comeback safe. fisherman |

Yes, Im aware of that word but I gave away no operational details that you can't find in public records, the movement of UAVs to North Dakota has been a highly publicized event and a very political move. They even opened the base to civilians for the first landing. |

As long as I've been around, I'm still amazed at the number of people with so little faith in our servicemen's judgement or discretion that they feel compelled to offer advice on situations they know nothing about. Good grief. Either way, I appreciated the genuine honesty and enthusiasm of your post. |

Bless her cotton-picking little heart. Yay for us! Edited to add: This is the THIRD veto override on Governor Perdue's butt this week. Sucks to be her. |
