Because I just bought my first plate carrier. Bought myself an HSGI Weesatch.

She says she sees no use for me to spend so much money on something that I wont ever use. I told her she was wrong, because I plan on doing some carbine courses here in the near future, and that is why i bought it.

This all came as a surprise to me because normally she is very supportive of any firearms purchase. There must be something else going on, and I need to figure it out.

People seem to think guns are fine but kevlar is WEIRD...

To me the game isn't shooting the other guy, its not getting shot fatally myself. Kevlar and/or plates are VERY important.

Seems most people think you've crossed the line from hobbyist to psycho when you start talking about plate carriers, regardless of whether or not you're planning on putting plates in them.

THAT'S when you really get the "what, do you plan on shooting up a bank or something?" speech.

Pics of the gear?

How much does this stuff run?

Background check, license, permit?

Do you like it?

Expensive for the plates and for under uniform vests.

In Texas, no to any of them. You can own as long as you aren't a felon.

I'll let you know what I think about it when I get it.

No permits or anything.

Cost varies depending on quality from $50-600

Eh, I don't see a need. If you want it, get it. But I can understand why they wouldn't understand it.

She might be worried that you are going to take part in a militia. My dad is the same way, I was talking about getting a vest and he asked me "Boy, are you wanting to look for a fight". He is really big in looking low key (so am I) but I believe in what I believe Thomas Paine said.

Something along the lines of "To be a true patriot, one must have at lest one musket, one pound of lead formed into balls, one small keg of gunpowder, and a satchel for which to carry it."

A vest/chest rig is the modern satchel for which to carry it.

she probably thinks you are preparing to commit a crime.
