My dog gets a real birthday cake every year. We just buy vanilla.
Link Posted: 9/12/2010 7:43:21 PM EDT
Very strange. At least it wasn't pie.
Link Posted: 9/12/2010 7:43:25 PM EDT
My wife's sister skipped my wife's birthday so she could throw a party for her bulldog. So, no. A cake doesn't seem that odd.

It's only strange if she doesn't do something commensurately cool for you on YOUR birthday. THAT would be strange. Sounds like your wife could be REALLY sweet...........or really strange!

never heard that before. I've had lots of dogs over the years, and i've thrown them all a candy bar here and there without any effect. Go figure

Good for your wife. I bet the dog loved it. My wife bakes biscuits & cakes for the dogs all the time.

We had one made by a woman in Californis. She does a "painting" ( with yogurt icing ) of the dog on the cake. Beautiful job. Not cheap though. It was his 16th birthday.

It takes more than an ounce of chocolate per pound of dog to do harm. Same for humans. I always stop at two bags of Hershy nuggets for myself!

Seems OK to me.

My two get steak on their birthday, they seem to enjoy it.

my wife got our dog a shitload of doggy icecream for his.

He was a happy dog
Link Posted: 9/13/2010 5:35:33 AM EDT

at least she can bake. and if it makes your wife feel good, why question it. it's also possible she was just wanted to experiment. i'd say it's impressive.

did you give her a hard time and tell her it was strange?

something in the chocolate is toxic to dogs in high quantities "theobromine"

It depends on the kind of chocolate. A dog can usually eat a lot of Hershey's milk chocolate before he suffers any ill effects. The darker the chocolate, though, the worse. When you get to bittersweet baking chocolate, no, it doesn't take much at all.

Giving your dog a steak... cool.

Baking your dog a cake... fucking weird.
Link Posted: 9/13/2010 2:21:43 PM EDT
Cool

After the kids, nothing better than a good dog
Link Posted: 9/13/2010 2:24:21 PM EDT
No, not strange... I grilled my two dogs steaks when I found out that they thwarted a burglary attempt of my home... They earned it...
Link Posted: 9/13/2010 2:26:53 PM EDT
Should have told her it was rude to bake the cake for only one of you to enjoy (the K9).
Yellow cake so you get some to!

Link Posted: 9/13/2010 2:28:15 PM EDT
One of our family friends will throw birthday parts for her dogs and invite everyone she knows with dogs to come over. We just use it as an excuse to get drunk.
