My sister is selling her house in Baltimore and I told her to snap some photos and I would put them on my website. She claims that all kinds of weird shit shows up in her photos inside the house, orbs of light, streaks and what not. The two photos below were taken at the same time but from slightly different angles. The picture in question is the lower one. You can see the streaking on the right side of the photo. Interesting I guess, any ideas??

What? Is she talking about the light reflecting off of your refrigerator or the recessed lights in the ceiling?

Link Posted: 9/29/2005 4:13:02 PM EDT
what did you crop out of the lower pic?

Nothing, its not as wide because she photoprahed it sideways which is why its longer than the first.

You mean the shadow?

Looks like shadows from use of a flash...

Reflections scare the hell out of me.

Looks like a shadow produced by the flash.

Looks to me like some sort of light refraction or shadowing effect.... check out these photos I shot a couple of years ago:

Light can do strange things in a photo.

A refection and shadow caused by the flash and a finger or some other object. I suspect a finger due to the camera being held vertically.

Yup. Those are ghosts alright. Nasty ones too. Who ya gonna call?

I don't have any answers for you but this is what appeared in a photo I took 2 years ago in a house I was renovating.

It freaked me out when I later learned the previous owners both died in the house within 2 weeks of eachother

ETA Nobody was smoking in the house
Link Posted: 9/29/2005 4:19:25 PM EDT
Those are lighting artifacts coming from the flash burst being reflected off of various surfaces. They show up in the photo but not in real life because, duh, the flash is still there. The timing of the flash and the shutter is slightly off so that the two or three time reflected light is hitting the lens after the exposure has been mostly complete thereby "ghosting" the images.

This stuff seems to happen more with digital cameras, but its possible on regulars as well.

looks like cigarette smoke

Looks like a bright light is behind the plant to the right of the trash can (see first photo) thus casting a shadow on the far wall.

Yours is either cigarette smoke or dust stirred up from walking that is super-lighted by the flash.
Link Posted: 9/29/2005 4:22:27 PM EDT
The camera was digital.

Now this is a real ghost.

Link Posted: 9/29/2005 4:23:02 PM EDT
Yep, that's a ghost all right. No doubt about it. Better tell your sister to make her peace. You'd better as well - once you photograph them, they usually go after you, your family, all your friends and the town where you were born.

The one that 19suburben96 took looks like there are some orbs in the photo.

Agreed.

To me, it looks like the shadow of the flowers sitting on the counter. Flash reflected off the picture on the left, causing the shadow.

I have a picture that looks similar to that one. I was taking a picture of some elk early one morning while smoking.

Be nice guys. Ghosts in pictures is a serious subject. What if you got them at a bad angle, think how mad they'd be.
I think your sister will be fine. Tell her to treat it like a bear, act bigger than you are and make a lot of noise, she'll be fine.
And i can't tell you how shocked i am that no yay-hoos have jumped in with the seemingly obligatory ''Draw down on that ghost'' bullcrap. i'm dissappointed in our southern members.....

only teasing boys.

The hotel I used to work at was supposedly haunted.

WE went to all the rooms and took pics using a mirror..we focused on the mirror instead of the room, it gave a cool effect.

All reflections.

Except that guy on the toilet. I think he is giving birth.

To a little shit..

I'm just glad to see I'm not the only guy who sanitizes his ass with 409 after a big dump.

Best ghost story I ever heard was told by the guy who bought the old eldorado canyon gold mine outside of vegas, and I took this pic in the mine. You wanted orbs?
