Sounds like a good price. Mileage? History? Rebuilds? Mods?

Sweet! Four speed or auto? 350 c.i.d. engine? What interior?

I've always been a big fan of rally wheels on vettes.

NICE!

350 Auto, eh? Not bad, that rear end won't be cheap to fix, though...
Carpet will be easy to find on the web. All in all, nice ride

Nice car. My wife keeps telling me I can't afford to have a mid-life crisis so I have to keep my brain young by playing on-line computer games against 13 y/o pimple faced kids. Sigh....

i just turned forty. i bought a watch and some cd's. nice vette.

Hope your eBay purchase turns out good.

I don't like Vettes. My 1966 Mustang's rear gear broke and I had to drive my mom's car while I fixed it. My girlfriend couldn't stand riding around in my mom's car. My ex-girlfriend "The bitch" hooked up with a guy in a Vette. Almost killed the poor guy.

I think the expectation here is that you should top it off by wrecking in the desert due to high speeds. Then while suffering from amnesia you should somehow find you way back home 3 weeks later with new tatoos.

Does it come with the requisite gold chains and bad rug?

Had a 1979 I got rid of awhile back, fun car, just always needs something fixed.

I bought an 82 vette on ebay a couple of years ago. It was close enough to go check it out before I won it though...doesn't sound like my deal was as good as yours.

Also...good luck on the rear end. We did go through mine, and it wasn't pretty. It needed every damn bushing and grommet!!!

You'll prolly love it anyway.

"The Bitch" hooked up with the guy. "The Bitch" got V.D. from him. Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. OOPS, sorry to hear that.

I showed him the error of his ways.

I have the same cars

Red SRT-4 and a 76 vet too.

A nice place to get all the info you need for the car is http://www.corvetteforum.com/

It's like the AR15 forum only for corvettes, their is a nice C3 (third generation of corvettes) forum

Careful on that........ Corvette IRS is something I wouldn't let just anybody work on.

There's a good bit of work in getting them together and installed correctly.

I'd look for a shop that has a good amount of vette experience.

These cars have a LOT of quirks, trust me........

Incidentally, so you know what to expect, this car is NOT a speed demon. The largest 350 from that year was only rated at 250Hp. This was the time period when cars were choked to shit, because of the gas crisis.

Here's a page with some VERY basic facts on that year, and some VIN codes you can use to verify a little of what the car SHOULD be :
www.idavette.net/facts/74.htm

And a MUCH better site, with LOTS of info :
www.vettesite.com/vin.asp

Make SURE your car is matching numbers and all the correct options are as you were told. There's a lot fo heaps of slapped together shit out there. It's a sad thing to see.

It'll certainly be 'quick' but don't expect anything crazy. Fortunately for you though, the 74 was the last year they didn;t have Catalytic converters on them. So you lucked out there, as they were a HUGE restriction on performance, back in the mid to late 70's and most all of the 80's model year cars.

That said, it looks to be a really pretty car. If it's as clean as the pic shows, and mechanically in good shape, you got a good deal.

Enjoy it

Come to think of it, yeah it was.

I don't think the scent was said to be "corpse-like" though

190hp or 250hp?

Rebuild it....... make it what it wants to be....
Link Posted: 5/22/2005 12:42:43 PM EDT
update. got it fixed.. it turned it was NOT the read end at all. right rear brake caliper was broken at the mounting had it replaced now all is well. Has a little more hp than stock not cat convert and true straight dual exhaust. not sure on exact number though.
Link Posted: 5/22/2005 12:44:03 PM EDT
Nice car, but no offense, a 76 corvette for what you paid for it will likely be worn out. It may be fun for you to restore it.

Maybe, but a 76 anything w/matching S/N for that price ain't bad and his vett looks darn good.
Link Posted: 5/22/2005 12:50:08 PM EDT
needs alot more than removing the cats to get any real hp. It has great potential though.

+ [drevil]one billion[/drevil]

rip the engine out, completely rebuild it less all the smog horseshit and plus some go fast goodies

had a '74 with a 454 (last year for it) and it is absolutely fucking AMAZING how they were able to take a big block and make it gutless with smog shit.....................

also had a '68 with a 427/435hp, now THAT was a vette!!!
Link Posted: 5/22/2005 12:57:53 PM EDT
run good yea it does need some work but thats part of the fun. I will be putting some goddies on it soon. I believe the exhause came off a 72 no smog stuff on the exhaust. in the future... cam, intake manifold, headers etc...

These cars were not built as the fire breathers of the 60's or now. 76 is a good year for the C3's, they finally got the rubber bumpers to where they would hold paint. Your car is meant to be a drivable "sports car". Enjoy it, every peice for it is available from the aftermarket. These cars aren't as appreciated by the public as the should be. Oh, and paint the ends of those nerf bars black like they should be.

I saw a 78' pace model with the L82 and 800 original miles on it at a dealership in F.T. Worth a few years ago for 14K.

I was T H I S close to pouncing on it!
