My oldest called me last night and told me she is entering the Miss Blueberry.  Talk about one excited kid and mom. Judging will be next mth she thinks. The winner won't be doing much until Labor Day though.

Blueberry Festival is a yearly event held in my hometown, one which I attend every year. (driving 120 miles to get there now)
I'm so proud of her for going for it, she is the shy, "I'm not pretty" type of girl.  Win or not,  it is a win for her because she is coming out of her shell to do this.

can I help it if I want to keep her 17 forever? and away from the likes of some of these guys here?  She will be 18 this summer , I still remember the day she was born. Why do they grow up so fast?

Cool and good for her.  Wish her luck for me.

My Maw was "The Peanut Queen" when she was that age.  I have her picture in full regalia on my drawing desk along with my Dad's Navy boxing pics.

They do grow up fast.  My daughter has been the same way and I am happy to see her coming out of her self imposed exile, socializing and making good girl pards this year.  It is both wonderful and terrible to see them grow up.

She needs to look in the mirror -- she's quite pretty.

I never want to have a daughter -- I'm too scared that she'd run into someone like I was when I was 17.

Grinning ear-to-ear like that, your girl just glows "happy" MrsGungho.  How people smile says a whole lot about the person.  I think y'all will have fun with the Ms. Blueberry thing too and a kid with a pretty smile like that can win anything she decides to.

Good luck to your daughter.  When our daughters were young we used to show horses at the blueberry festival horseshow every year.   a judged it once after they weren't showing there. now fly balloon with a friend.  Now I will have to  watch how your daughter does at the contest.

yes, yes she does. (poor kid )

I'll pass on all the good wishes, and thank you folks for saying what I have told her all along. It just doesn't mean as much when Mom says your pretty, we all know Moms are biased.

A Pretty Girl is Like a Melody

A pretty girl is like a melody
That haunts you night and day,
Just like the strain of a haunting refrain,
She'll start up-on a marathon
And run around your brain.
You can't escape she's in your memory.
By morning night and noon.
She will leave you and then come back again,
A pretty girl is just like a pretty tune.

And she is Very Pretty.
