Year 7 of a 1 year restoration......

After unsuccessfully trying to paint it myself, I had a real painter do it and it looks much better.  Sadly the painter didn't have my other pieces ready but I got the car back so I can finally finish up the mechanics of it.   It's an 84 T-type converted to an 87 drivetrain and lightly modded.  It should have about 475hp in it's current configuration.  It will probably take me about 3-4 weeks to get everything back together and troubleshot.

I call it "Project TNX" because I am basically trying to make it seem like GM put the GNX package onto a T-type.  I have a custom color GN schemed interior, made a couple one off badges for it saying "TNX" and "TNX 001" and adding the GNX flares and louvers.  If all goes well in life I plan on putting the special GNX rear end on it as well, but that's down the road a little.

Mods are: 204/214 cam, AFR, Walbro 340 fuel pump, hotwired, 60# inj, Razor Alcohol Injection, RJC powerplate, TA-49 turbo, Stock Location Stretched I/C, 3" downpipe & test, 2.5" Hooker exhaust, TurboTweak alky 93 chip, 2800 stall convertor, GNX fender flares and Louvers, 17" SLP ZR-1 wheels.

Interior:

One off badges and turbo shield

I actually bought this one to part out on the web, it was a true barn find.  I had a blue 86 T at that time.  When I got it home though I realized it was in 10 times better shape than my 86, and it was a hardtop so I began the task of converting it to an 87, correctly, and making it look like my 20 year old day dream.  Little did I know what a pain in the ass that would be, lol.

Here is what it looked like when I got it.

Mid engine transplant:

Building the engine in my basement, true redneck style.  Everything is powdercoated dull silver or ceramic coated (I hate chrome)

New tank, hell, feels like new everything.

Mocking everything up before I wrecked the paint the first time.

Garage full of prime:

LOL

On that note, It's getting LoJacked the week I get it running as well.  I have had it back from paint for one day and already had some people giving the car props and making me paranoid as all get out.  It takes a weak coat hanger and about 5 seconds to break into an 80's G-body.  I have kill switches, but that isn't enough.

Everybody you meet will have a story about the one their cousin's, brother's, uncle's neighbor that had a TNX.

My Painter is dragging his ass, but he gave me a huge discount so I can't really complain.  Hopefully the bumpers, fillers, header panel, flares, etc.. are done this week or next.  It's crazy that $6,000 is a cheap paint job these days.  I had a long time family friend do it.  I asked him what he would charge if I was a walk-in and he said $12,000.

I have the sneaking suspicion that the tiny assistant on the right, is now the medium assistant leaning up against the grey sedan in the first set of pictures.

It was a happy day to take of those god awful wheels and those classic 15" Aqua Flows!!

What really sucks is I stalled out on this project 3 years ago, and now I can't even remember half the stuff I need to do/finish.  Thankfully I bagged up all the parts with good labels.

Yes it is, when it gives up the ghost I'll move on to the modern BB ones, lol.  I honestly haven't even kept track of which one is comparable to the 49.  I figure I should be mid to low 11's and still streetable as hell, so I really don't have any more go fast mods in mind.

This was my nightmare.  I painted the car and it ran from one side to the other.  The individual pieces turned out okay, but I'll leave the painting to the pros in the future.

ruined the base on the shell.

The only aspect of my paint job I had the guy keep, the inside of the trunk, lol.

Fun car to drive and more practical than the 2006 Corvette I owned.

Properly placed pieces of sheet metal bonded to the inner door skin can eliminate the coat hanger trick.
