More like a little over 2k for the Serbu. DVDTracker, you HAVE to find a way to bring that to BRC. Buy a scope and bring it!!! [:D] Those targets ANTI make up are waiting for your 50.

Depends alot on the muzzle brake. The one I shot felt like a 00buck 2 3/4" mag round, only more of a shove than a kick.

Don't mess around with anything less. Spend the extra cash and get a BSA 30MM red dot. It'll be the best $30.00 you ever spent and will truly help you realize the potential of that sweet weapon you have. If you are not satisfied with the .50 , Send it my way and I will ship it back for you.

I thought Shepherd Scopes were 1" scopes? Generally, you need a 30mm tube on a .50 to get enough vertical adjustment (in MOA--I think the figure is in the 75 MOA range) to allow shooting at Real long ranges--like 1500 yds. DVDTracker, congratulations on joining the .50 club. The Serbu is a hell of a nice gun. I think you'll find that the Nightforce is generally agreed upon to be one of the best for a .50. Leupolds and IOR Valdadas are a little less expensive, but people who have used the Nightforce say it is definitely clearer. The only place to go from there is to US Optics (at about $2000--kind of makes the Leupold/Valdadas at about $800 and the Nightforce at about $1100 look like a bargain). Bull Solid rings (like Leupold Mark 4's or Badgers) are a definite necessity.

DVDTracker, You've probably seen the threads on biggerhammer.net about the various scopes and how hard on them the bi-directional recoil of a .50BMG with a muzzle brake is. I have a Leupold VariX III on BFG 96, and a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 on a Ferret. Both are generally reported to be holding up well on these kinds of rifles. I'd have to say the Nightforce is just a tad nicer optically, but not much. One thing you also need to think about is rings. Cheap rings won't hold a heavy scope on these. Also, if you're thinking about much time shooting at long ranges, you're may want to get a setup that allows you to tip the scope down at the front by up to a full degree to get more useable elevation adjustment. The Barrett adjustables work well at that. Good luck! Pat

DVD, have you figured out where you're going to shoot that thing? Concord only has the 100 yd range and Chabot, even thought it has a 200 yd line, doesn't allow 50BMG on weekends. Did you plan to shoot it out in the boonies? If you know of a place, let us know.

Shepherds employ a bullet drop RETICLE (out to 1000 yards) and does not require elevation adjustments once zeroed. The only requirement is that the load must match the ballistics of the given reticle, P1, P2, or P3. I don't know what the BCs of .50 bullets are so I am not sure which one would apply. But seriously, how many regular joes have a range where they can regularly shoot out to 1500 yards? How many of them are able to REPEATIBLY hit anything out that far?

That was my question as well. I'd like to shoot at least out to 500 yards, and my only local choices are a 100 yard range and a 200 yard range that doesn't allow 50BMGs on weekends. Probably afraid it will scare the civilians (or piss the people off siting on adjacent shooting stations.)
