I need your help in solving a dilemma I have with my mail carrier..
Here's the scenario. For 7 long years our mailbox has been in the same place we'd had no complaints from any of our Rt. carriers about the box ( we have a different carrier on the weekend). two summers ago a neighbor brought a double wide home into our area and our mailbox had to be taken up until they got both sides through then they put it back. The mail carrier got sort a postal on me. He told me it was two low,so I raised it to his spec's of 45 inches, next day he said it was two high so I lowered it to his specs again. The following day he said it was two shakey,so I anchored it down to where it would take a tornado to move it.. The following week he gets out and shakes the box profusively, I was waiting in the driveway and yelled what's your problem? He said we'll you've gotten it anchored good but ever since the movers took it up it hasn't been the same..if i were you I'd sue them and make them replace the box and put it up right.. you could get great money from a lawsuit like this.. I told him wait a minute...I'm not going to sue anyone over a mailbox what's the matter with you..he said I would. He said now that I've shaken it the lid opens inside my window,I know I asked you to move it so it would but if it scratches my interior or exterior you'll be buying me a new paint job and interior. I told him I was going to contact his supervisor, he said no no there's no need to do that..I'll tell you what,Let's just forget I ever said anything about the box...okay...I said oh no not this time. You've gripped about it long enough and it's time I got the legalities of this situation...he said I wish you wouldn't. I said it's to late to be making wishes. I called his supervisor relayed the scoop and she told me the regulation on height was only 42 inches from the bottom of the box to the ground..and that he shouldn't be doing this to us..She said she'd have a talk with him and call me back after 6 p.m. when he came in from his route. She called back and apologized for all his actions..The following day he stops toots the horn and we speak..He said you know it wasn't neccessary to do that.. I'm sorry I bothered you with this I should've been satisfied the first time...I'm thinking to myself, HERE'S YOUR SIGN". He said the box is fine like it is..I told him regulation was 42 inches he said no no you have a bigger box and it's the problem..(Well I got the bigger box so I wouldn't have to speak to him he's very disgruntle..". I said oh really..he said Let's just for get it..I'm sorry for the trouble.. Well I thought it was over late last fall he starts this all over again..He got a new pickup after totalling his out. This one is higher..you guessed it..He wants the box raised higher to accomodate his vehicle. I raise the box..next day he shakes it profusively before opening it..loosened it good. threw my mail on the ground and drove off..when he saw me in his rear mirror..he backs up and said I dropped some of your mail on the ground you can get it ..that way I don't have to get out...ok..I said ok.I don't like this guy's attitude at all..so I stay calm which angers him beyhond belief. Each day for three weeks he had something negative to say about the box...finally he said I'll tell you what we'll wait until spring and get the box fixed right..it's to cold now to do it..I said oh no tell me how I can please you so I can get my mail in my box..he wouldn't tell me. Well Yesterday I'm on my way to work..He stops me and says Can I give you a package I dont want to leave it in your box..I said yeah sure..The thing was a small box of empty film canisters for my launcher...I'd ordered. It would've fit in my large mailbox with no problem..I thought why couldn't he put it in there...then I found out...he said Listen, I know that box is a hard thing to work with. I need you to either get a smaller box or GET A POST OFFICE BOX....I told him you want me to get a post office box, sorry I can't afford one..and why shouldn't I continue getting it in front of my home? He said I can't keep stopping until you fix the problem so I don't have to lean over..I'm thinking stop on the way up. I was shocked..I said what's the problem now..He said I have to raise over into the passenger seat and toss your mail into the box...I said what do you want me to do about that? He said well, I don't know but I can't keep leaning over like that each time just to get it in the box..I said ok let me talk to your supervisor once again and see what the rules are on this. He turned pale and anger swept across his face..The regulation is 45 inches from the ground to the bottom of the box...You don't need to contact my supervisor . I said oh no buddy, you've raised a ruckious over the box for 2 summers straight and it's been there for 7 years with no complaint..I'm going in person and talking face to face to them. He said your the only one I have a problem with and the only one with a large box. I told him NO I'm not and I mentioned two other's and how much lower they were than ours. He said No there's isn't a problem...He said let's just let it go. I told him I had to get to work I wasn't going to be late talking with him.He said we'll talk tomorrow about it then.I said " I THINK NOT"! and drove off with his mouth hanging down to his chest. Well I get to the post office talk to a male supervisor who tells me regulation is 42 inches. He said the carrier couldn't put the mail in going up even though it's on the driver's side door going up because he has 700 different stops he has to make in one day..Not all on my street...thank god. I told him about him wanting me to get a postal box the supervisor said that is one option...I told him I couldn't afford it..He said let me talk to and get his side of the story and I'll call you back..Well how's he going to call me when he didn't even write the number down???? and he hasn't called and probably won't. If I had the money I'd lay a charge of harrassment against the carrier..since he's so SUE happy because his sister-in-law is a county prosecutor for district court. But I don't have the funds or the time for his nonsense game..To be continued next week my Dad's on vacation and is going to get in his face and hopefully set him straight..Wish us luck this guys a hard headed bully if ever there was one...It never hurts to have Back Up... |

Just take one second and look at what you have just posted.
There is an edit feature available, FYI. |

Keep it going. Really, life is too short to fix all your problems. A running battle with a mail carrier has high entertainment value.
Think of this as hand-to-hand combat. Mano-a-mano. He makes a move, then you check him. Make this enjoyable. Mount your mailbox on a large spring. Make it so it has an adjustable height. Do anything and everything within the regs to yank this guy's chain. Obviously, he doesn't want to do his job. Force him to do it and then enjoy the show. |
I'm thinking maybe there's a communication problem between you and the postal guy...Yikes. Please re-edit the post, it's extremly hard to get through. Oh, and call his supervisor again and say that you're worried about your saftey as he seems nuts.
Go up the chain until you get satisfaction.
Record any further conversations with this loon, pictures of any mail thrown on the ground. Speak to a lawyer if you don't get anywhere. Don't argue with him any more, he might shoot your ass! Sounds like a certifiable moonbat. |
Cement that puppy at exactly 42.5" above ground. Tell him you're recording all activity near the box for America's Funniest Home Videos or his vandalism trial, whichever he prefers.

Sounds like one of the contracted rural route carriers.
Some that we've had have been less than trustworthy. I just use a PO box, and would never go back to entrusint anything important to them. Postal carriers are no more or less sane and trustworthy than the general public Is this the hill I want to die on? Nope. |
I read it, and now have a head ache.
Interesting problem, I would jerk the guys chain. |
The regulation is actually above the level of the roadway, so if your post is off on a downhill slant be sure to measure from the surface of the road.
Your carrier is nuts and if the Post Master will not help go to the Post Office and file a formal complaint against the carrier so that there is a paper trail. No more of this "he said...they said" crap. Get everything in writing and documented. Wouldn't hurt to videotape the carrier's antics at your mailbox. As long as your mailbox is within postal regulations (ask for a written copy) they cannot suggest that you get a P.O. Box... Dimwits... |
Post a package with a Bushmaster (not the rifle)in it. Leave one corner loose.

I had a regular mail carrier (though a fill in while my guy was on vacation) start writing"out of business return to sender!" on my mail! I had been at the same location for 10 years and had a sign on the side of the building that was at least 2'x3' |
Why am I reminded of that movie Funny Farm with Chevy Chase?
Heavy_Weapons_Guy, no offense intended, but how old are you? I saw you mentioned your dad.
You made a mistake in the beginning ever getting into these discussions with this kook beyond, "Look buddy, I ain't changing the mailbox." |
Use proper punctuation, paragraph formatting and quotation marks, please. I read it, but it wasn't easy.
Is he a rural carrier using his own vehicle or a city carrier with a postal vehicle? either way play their game, write a certified letter to the Postmaster of your zip code, tell him he threw your mail on the ground in anger, it is probable that Postal Inspectors will follow him. My carrier sometimes does not wanna talk because he is being followed. You can make his life miserable by writing letters snail mail.

Your not the one in the chaos..and name calling isn't neccessary. If this is your idea
of a solution then don't reply at all.. |

Meaning go back up to original post and hit the "Edit" key, then make your post into a few paragraphs so its easier to read. Obviously you posted this to get some feedback from the board. If its painful to read, it will limit your feedback. By the way, did you read my reply? |

Where the carrier comes hauling ass around the corner and just throws the mail at them? Too funny. |

The PC seems to be obsessed with raking the OP over the coals regarding the height, location, size and sturdiness of the mailbox, for a variety of bogus reasons. The OP discussed the situation with the PC's supervisor twice. The first time, the PC came back sort of with his tail between his legs. The second time, the OP left the Post Office with a feeling that he was sort of being blown off. In short, the PC is nutz, and I don't me an cashews. |

Tell him to STFU and put the mail in the box.
My mail carrier bitches when the garbage can gets in the way of his vehicle on garbage collection days. (the garbage men leave the empties whereever....) So the mail man leaves nasty notes along with the mail. Fuck him. If he didn't want to deliver mail he should have studied harder in high school. Maybe him and the garbage man can fight it out. |
His mail carrier isn't happy. Ever. |
You'd still complained even if I'd had perfect punctuality...you and a few others are why
I deleted it... |
It is carriers like him that make a person suspect if he is actually getting all of his mail.
Oh make fun now.. |
Meanwhile every garbageman and mailman on the site is clicking "report thread" now.... |

I love hatemail.... |

Good advice here. Photos of how he is not doing his job will go a long way toward convincing the postmaster there is a problem, as would a taped conversation of this guy hassling you. Lifesaver |

I think I'll flood my mailbox with junk mail. that way he'll have to work harder.

He just tossed the mail in the box and left.Goes to show he's just being petty..
